Curvy Is Sexy
72I am saying it for the world to hear, curvy is sexy. Back in my early twenties I believed I had to be hundred pounds to be attractive, but that is just not true. Take a closer look at many larger women because they are healthy and active, but they have meat on their bones. There is a perception that many American women are large and not attractive, but I am going to debunk that theory right now. Not all large women are inactive. I am not saying I am the most beautiful woman in the world, but I know I am sexy, and yes I am a little large. I think women can be the worst critics of other women, especially when it comes to weight and diets. Well guess what ladies, I walk a lot and eat a great deal, so I proclaim I am sexy and curvy. Attractiveness is not just held lock, stock, and barrel by skinny girls who barely eat.
Polynesian Women Are Some Of The Most Beautiful In The World
Polynesian women are some of the most beautiful in the world. However, if you look at many of them they are not all stick figures. Genetically many Polynesian women are larger, and to be quite frank I think that is beautiful. Sure some of them eat a great deal, but many of these women are curvy and healthy. Do not forget that the European sailors thought Tahitian women were some of the most divine they had ever seen, and a historical mutiny can be attributed to the infatuation the men of the HMAV Bounty had with this beautiful ladies.

Not All Larger American Women Are Unhealthy
There is a perception by outsiders that all larger American women are unhealthy, but that is simply not the case. Yes I love carbs and pasta, but I walk and eat a variety of healthy foods, so I am actually better off than many women obsessed with drinking their ultra slim fast drinks and starving themselves through out the day. I know because I can speak from experience as a woman who was very obsessed with her weight for seven years of my twenties. In those days everything revolved around counting calories and barely eating, and let us just say fellow females are not always the most supportive people in the world.
I know many women of Mexican-American backgrounds who come from families where enjoying a large family meal is the norm. Many of these women eat healthy and exercise quite a bit, but that does not mean they are stick figures. I know Caucasians, Native Americans, Asians, and people of every ethnic group who enjoy eating food and are not the slimmest people in the book. One of my college roommates was Laotian and she actually admitted she always was on the larger side. However guess what, she made some of the most yummy food I have ever tasted, plus she was beautiful and athletic. She said she did not understand how some girls from her culture ate very little just because they wanted to look a certain way, and I must admit I admired her healthy attitude. I believe there are too many women that undereat in every culture. They are entitled to do this if food is not their pleasure, but they really do not need to roll their eyes and make catty comments about their female compatriots who enjoy cuisine.
Yes people should not eat too many of the wrong foods, but being slightly larger when you eat a healthy diet is just fine. There are many beautiful and sexy women through out the world who do not obsess with the calories, and their conversations are more delightful than those women who obsess with eating. Have you ever heard a woman talk about what she ate today? Boring, boring, boring!
By the way, often people will not want to go to the dinner party host is overly slim because you know they will not have a wide variety of yummy foods to choose from. Not that this is always the case, but many overly thin women I have met serve very little at dinner parties, and some of the best and healthy meals were served by larger women. This is not always the case, but people who enjoy eating usually know food.
Indian Picture Hubs Are Not All Bad
Lately the Indian picture hubs are the butt of many jokes, but there is one observation I can make from their photos, at least these women eat a healthy diet. Looking at an American fashion magazine is a little unbearable at times because the women are overly airbrushed and emaciated to begin with, but when you look at the Indian celebrities you can tell they are healthy women. Not all of them are slim either, which I think is part of their sex appeal, these women still have curves. So while some people in the world may think only a slim woman deserves recognition and respect, I must say there are beautiful and curvy women the world over. Also yes, they like to eat food, which is healthy and sensuous.

There's a bollywood actress called Kareena Kapoor(you might have seen) who is being criticised for her slim, skinny looks...some media people even commented she looks anorexic, but she looks sexy for majority fans. Also, it's true that we have many plump, good looking stars in North and South India as well.
You too are pretty. It's a nice hub and I'm glad to notice it on the very moment of publishing :)
another good hub
I agree. The world view, at least in the US, is that girls have to be skinny and dress a certain way to be called sexy. There is also the point of beauty. It i shard to calla woman beautiful when her eyes are sunk back in her head and cheeks sunken also.
A big thumbs up for you!!!
Georgiakevin,
Why thank you Georgia, glad to know you read. I will check out some of your hubs too.
Weblog,
I know you have many beautiful skinny actresses in India, I just noticed there is actually more variety in Indian celebrity pictures. I think way too many American celebrities are too skinny, overall. There is nothing wrong with being skinny if people like that, what bothers me is the obsession with it. Also, I know some men prefer skinny women, but sometimes their comment about it come across as hurtful to women who do not fall into the category. Ironically, many of the men who are obsessed with skinny girls could not win a beauty contest themselves lol. However, overall I think other women are way too critical of each other when it comes to their looks. One of the first things I have had women tell me is oh did you lose weight, which implies one cannot have looked attractive previously. Back in the day when I was obsessed with running one lady on my block came out and told me I looked great because I had lost so much weight, which really did not make me feel good about myself. Overall I think people are just too critical of each others looks, so this is all I was thinking about really when I wrote this :).
Honestly if people do not think I am pretty it is okay too, I am happy with my looks and it is fine by me. I would never want to be skinny again because that is just not me. Both of my grandmas were larger women and very active, so I know genetically I am who I am. There are ways to slim down, but then I would never enjoy some of the most wonderful things in life in my opinion. You are very sweet, thanks for always being my friend.
Lgali,
Thank you.
Sirdent,
Thank you for saying so. It is good to know some people actually still think about these things.
Of coures you know the inner beauty is more important than anything else. The outside can be absolutely gorgeous, but if the inside is rotten to the core, what good is it?
Yes that is true. I know many people who are considered beautiful on the outside, but they are just not very pretty because of their meanness.
Yes, you are right. I should have mentioned one more point related to Kareena, she was accused for being a bad role-model in such a way teen girls want as slim like Kareena that leads to them following improper, imbalanced diet and some health problems. We can't actually blame any celebrity for that, I think they should atleast have some stamina for dancing and all. I don't agree with too much skinny girls on-screen, they look very delicate. And, one problem I see with too fat actresses is that they can't dance gracefully, however there are some exceptional cases too.
Oh I was talking too much about celebs, coming to real-life...normal girls I think it's ok if they are happy with how they look.
You are right, women are the worst critics of other women. It is a pleasure to take your clothes off in front your man... but to be seen in a bikini by your girlfriends is a nightmare, you know they will be "inspecting" you centimeter by centimeter!
Curvy is beautiful and is sexy. Once a woman embraces her shape and learns to be proud of it, then she becomes atractive . The key for other people to like you is to start by loving and liking yourself. You've done it SweetiePie, you are a beautiful and sexy lady and what is more you are a genuine and wonderful human being.
xx
SweetiePie
Very true weblog, there are pluses and minuses to every situation. I can see why a dancer needs to be more lithe as it would be hard to do certain moves. It is fine you talk about celebrities as people like them and aspire to look like them, so it does have an impact on day to day life.
Princessa,
I always admire your hubs about the sexiness of real women. I think you should also write a book on the subject because you are very sexy and real lady.
Very nice Hub! You truely are one of the beautiful people of this world, inside, where it really counts and out side too! I always enjoy your Hubs. They give me hope that there are more folks like yourself out there than I thought!
Amen to that!
I like it! Good Hub. Let the world know your REAL beauty. :-) Way to go!
Sounds good to me...but at times I still struggle with thoughts of body beauty...I am who I am and glad of who I am sooo there we go.....Nice hub sweetie you know how to say things that make all feel good..Love it....MERRY CHRISTMAS...G-Ma :o) Hugs
Hi Sweetiepie. Great hub. Gone are the sticky go go girls of the 60's and 70's. America (anyway) is switching it's attention towards the voluptious and cury. By the way, I think you look fantastic:)
OMG- Preach on! I used to exercise, run, play sports, and other activites all the time. Now, I don't have time and have put on fifty pounds, a lil bit more than expected. 2 my surprise my boyfriend didn't seem to mind the extra pounds over the last six years. Although I would like to be smaller, I still feel pretty and so should any woman regardless of what that damn scale says. The only time woman are ugly is when you put urself or another down. Interesting you touched on the history of big girls b/c it used to be a sign of status if u were slightly larger.
you had me at " meat on the bones" ...I don't know if I felt so compelled due to my distaste for vanity, my appreciation for inner beauty or my infactuation with cannibalism.
Hi SweetiePie very thought provoking Hub. I think the word "natural" should be the important word here. If a girl is "naturally thin" she can be beautiful. If a girl is "naturally curvy" she can also be beautiful. In my opinion it is the unnaturalness of the person that is not appealing. Congratulations on your 100 score. You are showing top in my "Best Hubbers Page"
akeejaho,
I also appreciate your kind attitude towards humanity. Anyone who has a cute dog like that must be a pretty good person :).
recraig2,
That is the way I feel, real beauty is so much more than about being skinny :).
G-Ma Johnson,
You are a beautiful person on the outside too G-Ma. However, your inner beauty shines where ever you go. Merry Christmas G-Ma!
Rockinjoe,
Yes you are right there is more of a variety in models these days. I think you look very cute also, like a rock star :).
Smart Cat,
Very good point. In times past I find it is interesting that people valued being slightly larger as a good thing because it meant access to food resources. I think today some people still do, and I know many people are not obsessed with the model types.
agvulpes,
I think you like the skinny girls best :). That is all good, nothing wrong with that. As a woman that was anorexic and obsessed with being skinny in the past I know many girls are naturally skinny, but many, many more are naturally large. I guess my concern is if you are naturally skinny people are not going to make a big deal about it, but if you are naturally larger, well that is just a different story. To each his own of course, but I finally got to the point where I embrace being slightly larger. Actually many larger women are very active, and this hub was about debunking the mythology that all larger American women are not. Thanks for congratulating me on my score by the way.
i admire your wisdom, courage and beauty. may you infect more with your inspiring views of the world around you. remember, it always starts with just one candle :D
Cris A,
Thanks for making me smile :).
I agree with AG. I like the idea that there is room for every woman to be sexy, the curvy ones, the average in weight, and the skinny ones, as long as its their natural body shape, and it doesn't border on the extremes.
You rock girl, you represent to me an empowered woman, and this is something I encourage in my friends not just with weight but in other areas of their lives.
Good hub!
Oh, this hub made my day. :)
I'm not the skinniest person in the room, either; being 5'2 and about 165 lbs is overweight, but I don't think myself obese. Just nice and plump. And compared to all those skinny chickadees who shiver like a wet dog in Alaska when the temperatures get cold here in Minnesota, I'm extremely glad for my extra layer of warmth.
And hey; if I have to give up on the good food to be skinny, you can all go ahead and kiss my fat, round butt, because I sure as heck ain't about to stop enjoying the chow I eat! If y'all have a problem with it, tough bananas for you! I'm happy with the way I am (take that, Mom), size 15 petite juniors and all! <3
Violet Sun,
You are a very positive person and your words always make me smile. I like your healthy energy and I am sure you are good boost for all of your friends :).
Kika Rose,
I am 5'3 and 172 lbs, so I know what you are talking about. Lots of women are larger and there is nothing wrong with this. Like you I would rather eat good food than eat just a couple of saltines and water :).
SweetiePie, I would say no, definitely not skinny. Personally when I cuddle I woman I like to feel a body not a bag of bones! :-[)
It's a great article. Cheers!!
Hi SP - I wondered if this piece was partly triggered by some of my asides on the Washington DC hub? Personally I have no problem at all with women (and men) being their natural shape which results from, as you say, healthy exercise and a healthy appetite. However, when people eat themselves into effective disability (e.g. so overweight that they can barely walk) then I have less sympathy. It's very much on a par with drinking yourself to oblivion. Curves yes, obesity, no thanks!
Hi SweetiePie, I used to be really skinny until Mom made me drink some health vitamins and stuff like that and I started to gain some weight. I know I look better now and I feel good about myself and the curves too! LOL If one feels good about herself (whether curvy or not), it will show. :-) It's wonderful to know you feel good about YOU. Way to go...
Its all about curves these days!
Saltines = icky... Even in soup. :P I like the clam chowder cracker things, that taste like clam. ^_^
aguvulpes,
I was just kidding about that. Either way it is your preference though :). Have a nice holiday :). I know your avatar is all ready for Christmas.
dingdong,
Thanks for saying so.
Paraglider,
Actually this hub was only based on thoughts I have been having with a friend recently. I wrote a previous hub about the topic of women being hard on women about looks, so this was another thought based on this one. I did not think of your hub when I was writing this one. Thanks for sharing and you are correct, obsesity and alcoholism are both dangers.
Ripplemaker,
This is true, some people are natural thin or naturally curvy. We should all feel good about ourselves no matter what.
which4u,
I think it is good too because not everyone is a ruler :).
Kika Rose,
I used to have friend who would only eat oat meal, or only saltines for lunch. They always seemed kind of grumpy on that diet too. I know because I used to be anorexic and some days all I would eat would be too bananas and a salad for lunch, and maybe a small entre for dinner. I am glad I finally snapped out of that because my health would have went down the tubes. The clam chowder cracker things are better, I agree.
Wonderful Hub! You are right. And we women are very critical about ourselves as well. I know I used to be between 92-103 lbs. Even after both of my children, I was always thin. At one point i even looked sickly/anorexic because I thought I had to be skinny to be attractive...I 'thought' I looked good.
Now, since I have had a hysterectomy and other stress factors have come along in my life, I have gained weight. At first I was feeling bad about it...always putting myself down..but you know, I would rather have these curves than no shape at all! I have been on both sides...and I have to say...I feel more like a woman with some weight on me. I think that no matter what weight you are at though, every woman has a beauty about them. And you are beautiful sweetie. Take care.
I have a curvy belly and my little pads on my feet are pretty round too, Guess I am sexy!!!!! Oh Wait, you were talking about curvy women not poorQpines. SORRY! let's eat and think this over, what do you say? I'm hungry. Hey good for you for SPEAKING OUT. Makes me proud.
Well I think curvy poorQpines are very sexy too :). I love a cute porcupine :).
Angelwings,
What a beautiful message. I think you are beautiful also. Happy holidays!
SP- Indian actresses especially in south are little healthier. But in general I agree with you that "thin is in" has gone too far. I guess due to this concept where is it going to end finally size 0 which is so unhealthy. Great hub. You are pretty and let no one ever tell you otherwise.
Thanks for the wishes. Yes, as I was explaining her my difficulties in writing, naturally I was pleased to mention your great help and encouragement.
I wish you happy holidays and a prosperous New Year.
Thanks for stopping by weblog :).
You go girl. The older I get and the more I sit at this computer trying to make it in the internet marketing world, the more curvy I get. Have been feeling pretty low about it. Was glad to read this. Made me feel better :o) 2 thumbs up!
I think there is nothing wrong with feeling good about ourselves, which we should. I appreciate the comments whoelesouldib.
Good points, well put. I just cannot get my head around the concept of size zero (I am not from the USA). Doesn't "zero" mean nothing? No shape, no decent food, no energy??? While I do believe that there are people who try to justify being well overweight and unhealthy - hiding their discomfort and frustration behind a big fake smile - your discussion on big girls who are nonetheless fit and well and happy was spot on.
Thanks for sharing Diete. Size zero is more of a status symbol in the world of fashion than anything else. Back in the 90's when Tyra Banks was a supermodel the average size was a six, but now the models are aiming for twos to zeros. Great if you are built this way, but as someone who suffered from anorexia I know many people have to starve themselves to get to that point. My honest opinion is only doctors should critique a person on their diet or weight because untrained professional can do great damage with their comments.
My sister started going on diets when she was in elementary school just because of mean comments my grandparents made. It got to the point where my mom had step in to make sure she ate her food because growing kids need their energy. I know part of my being anorexic had to do with their comments and the pressures to look thin every day, but I was able to cure it myself. If I had not been a stronger person I might have wasted away for years before turning my life around. Only trained professionals such as doctors can determine if a person needs help with their diet, and comments others make are just not helpful. Some are slightly condescending and want to hurt others who do not fit into their vision of beautiful, but would said beautiful is always beauty contest beautiful. Being a strong person means you stand proud and show the world there are many forms of beauty, and the stereotypical societal definition of beauty fades as we age.
Wonderful write up! My concept of beauty is a healthy body and a glowing skin. I wonder if the woman in your profile picture is you. And if it is ...that's what beauty is.
Yes the picture is of me. Personally I think beauty is about feelng happy with ones self and being good to yourself and others. There is another concept of beauty that has to do with what we see in the magazines and tv, but it is okay not to believe that is the only form of beauty. I think everyone is beautiful in their own way. Thanks for your positive comment anjalichugh.
Great hub! Great photo as well! Go on and feel good about yourself! Kudos!
Dee Hubbing It Up
I love Long Walk Up
Thanks for the support and I say to same to you. I think all ladies should focus on what is good in their life and not the bad things. Life is too short in my opinion.
Right on Sweetie pie ! Good hub. We here In America are just way to addicted to what I call the E entertainment mentality and most young women seem to think that the fashion magazines and what Is on TV Is reality. As an obviously male of the species I can say wholeheartedly give me a woman who does,nt look like a crack addict . I love all women and I think curvy Is just beautiful. And by the way you have an adorable face too ! I hope that did not sound like a line at a singles bar ! Best to you !
Not at all Tony, you sound very much like gentleman. I am glad you advocate that women should have healhty views of their self-image, which is more important than ever in today's society.
Great hub! Very impressive.
Thanks nancy!
I agree 100%, everyone is too concerned what is on the outside. It's what is on the inside that makes a woman truly beautiful.A smile is the best cosmetic a woman can wear.I think the skinny look is not attractive at all. More women need to adopt your way of thinking, it would take a lot of pressure off them. Thanks SweetiePie.
blondpoet,
I just do what is perfectly healthy for myself I suppose. I am in better shape than many skinny women because I walk more than three miles many days of the week. I like to eat and do not apologize for it, and I think in some cultures that is actually acceptable. I think some people who obsessed with media looks will think they have to look a certain way, but I actually get compliments and do not look like the trendy type of person at all. For instance my legs are really nicely shaped because I walk so much, but people who do not walk do not usually have a great deal of muscle tone. For me it is all about having a strong and confident attitude.
I think that girls that are right in the middle of being fat and being skinny are the most beautiful. It is not attractive to look unhealthy, whether you are over weight or too skinny. Everyone is beautiful in there own way though.
Good Hub.
Tayler! :)
Tater2tot,
For me it very much varies. What one person considers "in between" may be too skinny or too thin for someone else, so I never like to say what I think that is. Honestly many people diet continuously to even be around what is considered in between by media standards, so it is good to keep in mind some people are just made to be larger. There are some very skinny women that I think are attractive, some in between, and then some larger women such as Queen Latifah who is about 200 pounds. She is really healthy and works out though, and honestly I think she is one of the more attractive celebrities. Thanks for stopping by and sharing.
Great hub SweetiePie with some very good observations!
Thank for reading and stopping by compu-smart.
Amen sister! I loved this hub. Society tells us what is sexy but as long as you feel sexy I think it shows through. Besides, if I had to give up chocolate to save a few pounds I think my body would go into shock. Really bad shock. And because the same standards aren't there for men to be ultra-thin, I think we need to dictate exactly what sexy is - confidence, positive attitude and a smile!
Peppermint Thrift,
No one can tell us what is sexy because as you said it is about confidence and attitude. Whenever someone leaves a weird comment about how in between is their preference I have been deleting these because who are they to tell people what is in between, which again varies from person to person.
I tend to think that either extreme is not great - both very skinny and very fat people (men and women) don't look that attractive to me beause they don't look healthy. But there is a wide range of healthy between those extremes.
I'm 5 ft 7, and pretty active, and a normal weight, there is less of me than there was a few years ago, and I'm fitter and happier for it. But if I were 100 pounds (just over 7 stone, I think) I'd be far too thin.
Even some really larger and skinny people can be beautiful though. One could have a beautiful face, and I have learned it is hard to tell from appearance whether someone is healthy. Some people think a skinny person is healthy, but if they are not exercising they are probably at higher risk than a larger person who is active.
Not that any has to be smaller or larger, but after reading studies that show people should not over exert themselves to be a certain number I have really come to embrace this. I may be on the larger side even, but I am attractive and healthy. I walk about three miles a day, but some of us have low metabolisms and cannot achieve the looks others have. I think we each must do what is best for our bodies. Since I do not have a high metabolism and eat healthy I can appreciate how some people are never going to conform to a certain weight.
I believe so strongly in the beauty and health of my body, and after being anorexic for four years I learned in life it is important for me to have a robust appetite and walk. Some people may hate the way I look even, but I love it so much these days :). I have learned to find beauty in every person because I just never want to judge someone's appearance.

I always enjoy reading your hubs. I think a smile makes anyone attractvie. As an impartial observer I find more curvy women very attractive and the overly thin ones I wonder if they are very sick.
