Hammocks are the Gift of Relaxation

Give the Gift of Relaxation this Christmas

What stressful times we are living in! How many times do you think "just let me get away from the bad news for a little while, let me escape and relax." My escape place is my hammock, with a cup of tea and a good book. Within 1 minute, all the cares of the world have disappeared, at least for a short while. I guess we all must come back to reality sooner or later, but it is so nice to escape and relax for a while.

So, why not give your family and friends the gift of relaxation this year. My suggestion is a hammock, some tea and a good book as a package. At bayhammocks.com we want to help you create this gift so are offering a pre- Christmastea and hammock sale.

All our hammocks will be on sale, 20% off, until November 30 2008. With the hammock we will include a box of King Cole Tea (a Nova Scotia favourite). You can use your savings on the hammock to purchase the book - that is a very personal thing and we are not in the book business.

Hammocks and Children

Children love hammocks but many parents are hesitant to let them use them because of safety concerns. There is really no reason to worry if proper precautions are taken and a few simple rules observed.

First rule: Buy the right hammock. The hammock you choose should be sturdy enough to take a beating and of a close weave so tiny arms and legs cannot slip through and get caught. The Bay Hammock Company, www.bayhammocks,com carries a polyester net hammock that is perfect for children.

Secondly, install the hammock close to the ground and cover the ground underneath with grass, wood chips or some other material that will make for a soft landing if someone falls out.

Thirdly, tie the hammock down so it cannot flip over. To do this attach a length of rope to the spreader bars on diagonally opposite corners as shown in the diagram below, Attach these ropes to stakes in the ground directly below where they are attached to the spreader bar. Tighten them to control how much the hammock can rock and tie firmly.

Now establish a couple of rules:

  1. No Jumping. A hammock is not a trampoline.
  2. Play in the hammock only when there is a responsible adult to supervise.

Hammocks

Single Spreader Bar Hammock

We love this hammock. If you look closely you will notice that there is only one spreader bar, at the end where you put your head. This design adds greatly to the stability of the hammock, making it very comfortable to lie in.

Handcrafted Nylon Hammocks:

The best hammock we sell. It is a bit expensive but soft and luxurious - the ultimate relaxation device.

Handcrafted Olefin Hammocks:

Olefin is a tough fibre yet has a bit of give, letting you snuggle in for a serious sleep.

Net Hammocks:

These economical hammocks are very good value. Probably the best buy on the internet.

Fabric Hammocks:

Perfect for patios or beside the pool. Made of furniture grade Sunbrella@ fabric this easy-care hammock will give you years of relaxation.

Camping Hammock:

The concept is really quite simple. Made of rip-stop nylon parachute fabric, this hammock is light weight, compact and can be hung anywhere you can find two trees, rails or posts that will take the weight. Ideal to get up out of the brush and rocks after a day of hiking, canoeing, or whatever.

Hammock Swings:

No space to hang a hammock? Or maybe you prefer to sit to read or swing an hour or so away on a lazy afternoon. Then a swing could be the answer.

Accessories for your Hammock:

Hammock stands, hanging kits, pillows, drink holders, etc. Everything you need to heighten your relaxation experience.

Custom Made Hammocks:

Whether you need 1 hammock made to fit a special space or 1000 hammocks made with a custom design, our talented artisans can handle the job. Because each hammock is handmade it is not a big deal to make something especially for you.

My kids have been bugging me about a hammock too and I have been a bit wary. Good hub here though and good directions for kids. I can give in now. We have a couple of good weather months left too.

I love laying in the hammock with my Mom. In fact I want my own dog hammock. But until then... Nice hub!

I really need a hammock. Nothing is as relaxing as swinging in the sunshine, watching the clouds and the sky.
