There are some top bloggers and writers out there. But why there are so few, while so many out there write, warrants an explanation. Top bloggers and writers write content, which you would just sit and read, as you would watch a film. In a world with ten billion intelligent inhabitants, not one million, not ten thousand, not even thousand great writers are there. There are tens of thousands of doctors, so many lawyers, so many engineers, so many scientists, so many… what not! But writers, so few! Despite being a lot simpler task than what these guys do, writing has too few great exponents of that. Why we have this limitation is to be pondered much.

My first mission to start this blog here is in view of creating some good authors. Becoming a great author (like Charles Dickens or Ernest Hemingway) is almost impossible. So, become at least a good author, why not? Good writing is not lifting thousand pounds. It is not thinking like Einstein. It is not even as hard as cooking meals. It is just lounging in your couch, and tapping keys; but if you know which key to tap!

Rule number #1

For me, good writing is simple, essential, and to-the-point. When there is a way for that, you don’t have to explore the “modus operandi to enable yourself achieve such a task as that.” And when you can write an article, you don’t want to “put down words, which will eventually form an article.” So, be simple and to the point, you will be read. (My next post is about wasting words, which you must read!)

When you can write simple sentences, you don’t have to write too simple ones:

Tom is a boy. He wears a sweatshirt. He is 5 feet tall. He is fair. He is handsome. He is running. He is…

Now, that looks ridiculous! How about:

Tom is a fair good-looking boy of five feet, wearing a sweatshirt. He is running.

That’s fine and professional. Good to be professional. Being professional means being subtle to me. When you see professionals and amateurs at work, you will know this. Stephen King writes simple sentences with subtlety, while Dan Brown exaggerates like anything. Danny is an enjoyable read indeed; however, he is amateur as hell.

Think and then write. Writers are better equipped to think than normal people are. So, think dear! You have to create cool similes, which are like twins in effect, great metaphors, which pull the reader toward the screen and rivet their eyes, and great content, which will hook and make her read on.

Read to write. Don’t read what you want to write. Read what you don’t know. Read professional writing. If you do, you can greatly improve your skills. To-the-point writing normally warrants a lot of reading. Thinking what you want to write is important. Reading good writing not only creates a good writer in you, but it inspires. Someone said: “Good writing has personality.” When you read someone write, you should virtually see the writer. You should understand the way she poses, and tells you what she tells (please note, I am a he!).
