A name brand pack of soda that contains 24 cans costs about $7.99; this is without any sale prices or tax. If you break that down into price per 12 ounces of soda, it would equal out to about 33 cents per every 12 ounces. A 12 pack of soda usually costs about $4.50, not including tax, which equals out to about 37 cents a can. A 2-liter bottle of soda costs about $1.29, not including taxes. On average a 2-liter bottle, contains about five and a half cans of soda, which turns out to be 23 cents for every 12 ounces of soda. A six-pack of 20-ounce bottles costs about $4.29, not including taxes. This means that you are paying 42 cents for every 12 ounces of soda.

You can also buy soda at the convenience store or at the checkout in individual bottles. These bottles of sodas are impulse buys and end up costing you a ton of money. For example, a 20-ounce bottle of name brand soda at the checkout can cost $1.29, which is 77 cents for 12 ounces of soda. The stores also sell 1-liter bottles for around $1.79, which is more expensive than a 2-liter bottle of soda. You can also find some stores that carry half cans of soda. These are another money waster because you are paying for the convenience of the small cans, which are only sold in six packs.

Depending on how you buy sodas, buying them at the grocery store can quickly add to your grocery bill. One reason that it quickly adds up in your grocery bill is that people buy more than one pack of soda when they go shopping, whether it is a 12 pack of soda or a 24 pack of soda. By not purchasing soda you will reduce your food costs by at least $5.00 each shopping trip, you can cut even more money off your food costs depending on how much soda you buy each trip. If you buy a 24 pack of soda each week at the grocery store you are spending $24 a month on soda alone, which means that you are spending $288 a year on soda, and this does not include taxes or surcharges.

If you happen to buy soda at the convenience store or while you are in line at the grocery store this adds to your food costs, even if you do not budget for it in your grocery bill. By stopping, your self from making these impulse purchases you can cut your food costs by $7 dollars each week. This adds up to $28 a month or $336 a year.

If you simply stop buying soda, you are going to be saving an average of $288 a year on food costs if you buy soda by the pack. If you are simply buying the 20 ounce, bottles once a day you will end up reducing your food costs by $336 a year. If you drink more than the average amount of soda, you will save more than the average amount of money each year by cutting out soda from your food bill. Even if you buy the generic soda instead of the name brand soda, you can still spending extra money on your food costs. A 12 pack of generic brand soda still costs about $3.00. If you purchase two 12 packs a week that is $6.00 a week that you are spending on soda
