DCUC Adam Strange/Starfire 2 pack Review
66Adam Strange/Starfire Review
When I arrived home today, I found an unexpected surprise waiting for
me at my garage door. After quickly inspecting the address label, I
knew it was from Mattel! My thoughts quickly went into overdrive
wondering what I had purchased and how I was going to explain this to
my wife. After all, I have been known to accidentally forget purchasing
something only to find it waiting for me when I get home.
I walked in and let the dog out, then grabbed the scissors from the
kitchen draw. I cut through the well taped box to find the DC Universe
logo starring back at me! I quickly found the invoice and realized that
this was my review copy of the Adam Strange/Starfire 2 pack from
Mattel! So without further ado...
Adam Strange
I have recently been trying to find 70's issues of DC Comics that
featured Adam Strange. After being featured in Countdown I grew sort of
fond of the character. Mattel hit a homerun with this version of Adam
Strange.
This is a solid figure from head to toe! The joints were tight and the
peg holes fit my DCUC base perfectly. As quality goes this is one of
the better DCUC figures that I own. (I own everything made up to today)
The gun fits his hand perfectly and looks really cool to boot! The
holster on his chest is a tad distracting but, nothing that holds this
figure back from being one of the best DCUC figures to date.
My only gripe about this figure would be the paint job. It isn't the
worst of seen and it is by far from the best. If you are one of those
that has to have perfect paint on a figure then you aren't going to be
in DCUC nirvana but, you want be calling up Mattel and wanting your
money back either. The main paint problem are small things like overlap
here and there on certain spots of the uniform.
Overall I would give this figure an 8 out of 10.
Starfire
Mattel chose to go with the "modern" look for Starfire with this
particular figure. My favorite happens to be the Perez era uniform but,
I am not complaining because I actually have a Starfire (comic book
version) figure in my collection!
Starfire isn't the best DCUC figure that I have seen. She in fact is
probably on my list bottom five. The sculpt is great and in fact from
the head to the knees she is top notch. The paint-apps are awesome on
this figure. The 4 Horseman have really captured her "modern" era
essence with this sculpt!
My problems stem from the knees down. I don't know if she has two of
the same lower legs or that the pegs in her knees and ankles are just
warped. (Now I am not saying every figure will be this way, just the
one that I received) She just look awkward standing because of the bow
in her knees and ankles.
Overall I would give this one a 4 out of 10.
The only reason I give it a 4 is because of the quality control issues
with her legs. If you get one that doesn't have that issue then you
will have an easy 8 out of 10 figure.
Overall I would give this 2 pack a 7 out of 10. Why? Because the
character selection is, pardon the term, brave and bold! This is what
collectors want to see from MattyCollector.com as exclusive 2 packs.
Also Adam Strange is such a great figure that it brings up the value of
the 2 pack greatly! Believe me when you stand him next to your other
figures he puts them to shame!
