Many people have letters added to the tattoos they have, in order to be unique try different tattoo lettering in the design. There are hundreds of writing scripts that could be used; they could make the letters thick or thin and with different embellishments on them. There are plenty of times when a mixture of scripts would work well, especially if the writing has a title and a main body or if it’s a memorial tattoo which includes dates and words. The words tend to have links to any pictures drawn with them, so an old fashioned style picture will have Gothic writing, a picture of something violent would have letters with flames added.

Another use of words is to translate the words you want into another language or to use a common phrase from that language. Chinese and Indian Sanskrit lettering is popular due to the way it’s drawn.

The letters and words look like pictures themselves and can look great when applied to the body. One thing to bear in mind if you have a different language used in your different tattoo lettering is that the words and letters are accurately translated and applied. A slight miss spelling could completely change the words and their meaning. This also applies with languages that use pictograph lettering, a line missing or out of place could be crucial. This is why an accurate translation is also crucial in order to get the words right.

The above tattoo of Gandhi shows a perfect example of different lettering and different scripts. The bold script featuring his name is one style. The two quotes are both important to Gandhi and to the wearer of the design; they show how the person feels about the quotes, the religious parts and the importance of living by these words. It’s an image that can only be fully seen if the man wears nothing on his top half; it’s easily covered as well which may be important.

The wording could be ones drawn in other languages and scripts but in this case it looks better like this. The phrases are so important and are so closely linked to the picture its best to have words that can be read. If you design your tattoo with different tattoo lettering then bear in mind all the above points on style and format. Also remember the fact that the tattoo is hard to remove or clear up once applied also one with lettering and words is very hard to cover up with other words or pictures.
