DIY Credit Card Settlement
67Is credit card debt settlement right for you?
If you find yourself in a position to have to look into a credit card debt settlement with your card company there are some things you need to consider if you decide to go at it on your own. It's possible that you will be able to save sum cash by doing it yourself but keep in mind there will be some obstacles you will have to overcome.
Credit card companies know that times are hard right now and that folks are struggling to pay their bills. Most credit card companies would rather get some of their money than see their clients go into bankruptcy where there will be no payment at all for them. At the same time most folks don't want to apply for bankruptcy when it is possible for them to enter in a credit card debt settlement agreement with their creditor.
Let go over some of the steps you need to take to be successful at getting your credit card debt settled fairly and equitable for both you and your creditor.
Get ready to make the call
Before you make the call to the credit card company you need to be prepared. First thing you want to do is have the latest credit card statement in front of you. By this time you should also have created a monthly family budget and you know more or less how much you can safely pay to the credit card company.
The monthly amount you can pay is the amount you are going to negotiate as your credit card debt settlement monthly payment. Of course, if you happen to have a lump sum of money that you think you creditor will settle for than try and negotiate towards that in stead of a monthly payment.
Go ahead and make the call
Once you have prepared what we have suggested go ahead and make the call to the creditor. Keep in mid that if you are more than a couple of months behind the person on the other end of the phone is not going to be pleasant. As a matter of fact he may be downright rude. Don't expect a quick positive response from your creditor when you suggest a credit card debt settlement plan. It may take them a while to see that you are serious.
Also keep in mind that the person on the other end is going to try and get a payment from you so they may not be willing to listen to a credit card settlement plan from you. Don't despair and give in just ask to speak to someone who is in charge.
3 more options should the call fail
Should things not go well on the call and you can't reach an agreement then you can do one of three things. You can hang up an try again at another time, you can ask to a supervisor, or you can write the company a letter.
Either one of these is a good way to go and the only thing we recommend to make any of this option, other than one, successful is to be very specific in the frequency and amount of money you will be able to pay.
The credit card debt settlement plan you want is one where the payment are reasonable and one you can make, and where all late fess, finance fees etc. are reduced or completely eliminated. You want to settle for 40-50 percent of what you owe. If your creditor is unwilling to do that simply tell them you are not interested and can't do anything further. Chances are you will get a letter from them with your credit card debt settlement agreement.
Look it over carefully and if agree to it sign it and make your payments like agreed.

If you are interested in leaving out the third party, then you have a good chance of negotiating credit card debt with your creditor. They want to be paid as much as you want to get out of debt. If there is a setback in your income for whatever reason, then talking with your creditor is the smartest thing you can do.
