What is the DSi?

The Nintendo DSi is the video game company's latest handheld upgrade to the DS Lite.  It offers two digital cameras, a built-in audio player and a wider range of Internet use.  The latter lets you transfer photos to and from the Wii Photo Channel, along with downloading DSi content after converting Nintendo Points.  You can even post pictures to Facebook via the Photo Channel, browse the Internet, play games with other DSi users and even use a SD card to store additional content.  Overall, the DSi takes the concept of interactive handheld gaming to a new level, especially when it comes to facial interaction via the digital cameras.

What is the DS Lite?

The Nintendo DS Lite is the predecessor to the DSi.  It took the DS handheld system and made it smaller while still retaining the use of a stylus, two screens and a microphone to let gamers play their games in a new way.  Using a stylus let gamers lead characters through areas, see behind them and access context menus and maps in ways never done before.  While the DS Lite is a solid handheld gaming system, the DSi surpasses it by adding much needed ways to play games in new, exciting and innovative ways.

How do they compare?

The DS Lite is a proven handheld system.  It is solid, stable and can be modded.  The DSi, however, brings new way to play and if you are looking for ways to interact more with your video games.  It is the portable gaming system that has it all and Nintendo has gone to great lengths to take user feedback, reviews and concerns to design an all-inclusive and interactive system for gamers to play.  Since the Nintendo Wii utilizes movement, the DSi utilizes other ways of gaming on the go.  Using voice, facial movement and more to let you get into a DS game in ways the Wii does not let you.

What the heck? Speaking to Japanese news group Asahi (also the name of one of my favorite beers), Satoru Iwata seems to have mentioned that Nintendo is already hard at work on a ...
