Dalworthington Gardens, Texas: A Rich Country Town in a Big City
70Dalworthington Gardens is certainly an interesting little town. Located in the heart of Arlington, Texas which is located in the middle of Dallas and Fort Worth, DWG (for short) is an interesting little town with country roots, historic backgrounds, and rich estates. DWG today is growing everyday. The population is small, but the love for the small town is big. I love living in DWG.
Dalworthington Garden’s Country Roots
Carl Mosig, noted as DWG’s first resident, bought a 15 acre plot of land to build a family home and a farm. DWG today has big residential lots that almost make it a country town if it were just in the country. Being 1.9 square miles, 1.8 of that is land and 0.1 is water. As you drive through the crowded streets of Arlington, it is fascinating to drive right out of Arlington into Dalworthington Gardens and picture a small country town. There is a lot of land and on most, pretty large houses.
I was in Drivers Ed and we had to take a course on country driving. Well, you know how it is, where is there a country town in the middle of Dallas and Fort Worth? Probably an hour west! Actually, no. You can just drive on over through crowded Arlington and enter the nice, calm country style of DWG and have a fine experience driving through looking at the nice park, fishers at the pond, large estates, and green trees lining the streets.
Dalworthington Garden’s Historic Backgrounds
This is probably the part I usually label ‘history’. The history of Dalworthington Gardens seems to people very boring. But when you consider just how historic this small country town really is, you should be pretty impressed.
It all started when Carl Mosig bought his estate on Arkansas Lane. Carl was good buds with Elliot Roosevelt, Eleanor and President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s son. Elliot brought his mother, Eleanor, to DWG to visit Carl and his homestead. When she got here, she fell in love with this little town. Eleanor Roosevelt soon thereafter built a colony south of Carl Mosig’s property and called it Dalworthington Gardens. Isn’t is cool that President FDR’s wife founded Dalworthington Gardens! DWG officially became a town in 1936. The street that runs right through the city is named Roosevelt Dr., named after the Roosevelt family.
Dalworthington Garden’s Rich Estates
Usually in small country towns, you will find smaller older homes. But DWG is different from these small towns. DWG offers smaller homes, but not many. Most of the homes in DWG range in 400,000 up to 3 million. There are many nice home sites still being built today. Some of DWG famous citizens include Kenyon Martin, of the Denver Nuggets, Melissa Lawson, winner of Nashville Star 2008, and the late Pantera guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell. DWG is also home to many wealthy CEO’s, presidents, and executives of top companies in the metroplex.
I love living in DWG so much and I hope you can visit sometime!
