Free Detox in a Cup: Dandelion Tea
57
The next time you feel like pulling those pesky dandelions out of your garden, think again. Natural dandelions provide countless benefits for the body without straining your checkbook. Known for its ability to stimulate the liver, rid the body of toxins and soothe digestion, the dandelion is the go-to herb for healthy fasting and body detoxification. Dried dandelion is edible from root to tip- you can throw it in a salad, make tea or eat it on its own while reaping the benefits. The dandelion is also famous for its ability to clear up skin problems. If you suffer from acne, eczema or mild inflammation, simply drink a cup or two of dandelion tea for three weeks and your skin should start to clear up.
A simple (and free!) recipe for Dandelion Tea:
-pick a handle of young, fresh dandelion greens
- wash thoroughly with water to remove dirt (stay away from dandelions in lawns that could have pesticides)
-lay the greens out to dry
-pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1-2 teaspoons of crushed leaves
-steep for 10 minutes
-if the tea is too bitter for your tastes, simply add apple or orange slices, a sprig of mint, honey, or agave nectar to sweeten up the flavor
This recipe can also be used as a natural face wash or healing liniment for mild scars. Substitute the leaves for dried, chopped dandelion root and enjoy!
