The Dangers Of Not Backing Up Your Computer
63
Computer disasters do happen.
Do you keep your computer backed up?
If so, good for you! You're the minority. If not, why not?
Do you think that a computer disaster won't happen to you?
I'm betting the owner of the computer above wasn't expecting the building to go up in flames, but it did.
It's unexpected events like that that necessitate computer backup. You don't plan to spill your coffee on your laptop, but it happens. You don't plan to have your computer washed away in a flood, but it happens.
All you can do is be prepared!
The stakes are high.
I never realized how much of my business (not to mention my life) was attached to my computer until disaster struck. During a routine office move, 'someone' dropped my computer down the stairs as they paused to chitchat in the hallway. (It went right over the railing it was resting on.)
I lost countless office documents, emails, invoices, bank statements, etc. It was a serious setback to say the least. (Granted some things had already been copied elsewhere, but some things I had to start over from scratch!)
So it's no joke. Here are just a few of the things you could lose:
Business Plans
EmailsFamily PhotosFinancial StatementsSoftware (and you lost the CD-ROM)Tax documentsWhat would happen if you lost your tax documents? Or your irrecplaceable family photos?
To the rescue.
While I have learned the importance of backing up my computer, I am not what you would call an expert. That's why I want you to take a look at two useful computer backup resources: PC Backup Review and Backup Review Info.
PC Backup Review is full of reviews of popular backup options (I suggest Mozy or Carbonite,) and Backup Review Info has the latest industry news.
