Portugal Post Offices has issued a new serie of stamps to comemorate the 200th aniversary of the birth of Darwin. The issue date was 12, February 2009. This issue consists on 6 stamps and 1 souvenir sheet with 1 stamp:

€0,32 – 330 000 ex.
€0,32 – 330 000 ex.
€0,68 – 230 000 ex.
€0,68 – 230 000 ex.
€0,80 – 200 000 ex.
€0,80 – 200 000 ex.

Souvenir Sheet: €2,50 – 60 000 ex.

This issue was designed by Atelier B2/José Brandão/ Elisabete Rolo

It was issued 30.000 copies of the €0,32 stamp (Finches) with 125 years of the Zoo of Lisbon, promotional label.

Darwin (Charles Robert Darwin), born on 12 February 1809 and died on 19 april 1882.

Darwin was an English naturalist who presented and realised evidences that all species of life have evolued over the time from common ancestors, through the process that he called "Natural Selection". He developed a keen interest in nature studies from an early age, he explored the geology, fauna and flora of many places that he visited on his famouses voyages.
