When you add up the cost of dinner and drinks, movie/theater tickets, gas and parking or valet, you have probably spent well over $100 in less than a full day. The good news is you don’t have to spend a lot to have a great date. In fact, I think some of the best dates cost little to no money. Now that the warmer weather is approaching, there are lots of things to do outdoors with your special someone. Here are a few suggestions:

*Pack a picnic basket and dine al fresco at a park, the beach, or even right in your very own backyard. No long wait at a restaurant and plenty of outdoor seating.

*Attend a local festival. Many offer free or very inexpensive admission and live music.

*See a movie outdoors. Many parks and community organizations offer movie nights free of charge. Bring a blanket or camping chairs and snacks.

*Active couples can challenge each other on a run, bike ride or hike. Check out a local map or the internet for routes closest to your area.

*Dance under the stars. Many big cities, such as Chicago and New York offer free dance lessons of various kinds followed by open dancing during the warmer months.

Rainy day?

*Check out movies from your local library. Most offer free or very inexpensive rentals.

*Cook dinner together and dine by candlelight.

*Check your local museums and art institutions for free days or half price after a certain time.

Great suggestions. After all, the most important thing in a date is the company :)
