From a guy's standpoint picking activities and locations for a date are always difficult to decide on. Some make the mistake of asking the date for an opinion on what to do. This displays the guy's lack of confidence in himself and his decisions.

For a new friendship and the hopeful possibility of a relationship it takes smaller baby steps. The girl may not be all that interested so it is good to meet for a cup of coffee at a scenic cafe or lunch at a low-key restaurant; A "day date". This sort of date does not come off too strong and really gives each person the opportunity to get to know one another more in depth.

The next type of date is a bit riskier for the guys that have any sort of doubt in their mind about how the girl feels towards him. In this situation you ask the girl to get some dinner in the evening. It's up to the guy to decide how nice of a restaurant he wants to go to. After the dinner has finished, this is where we guys start to panic. We think "what should we do now?" The typical dinner and a movie at the theater I think is overrated. Suggesting to rent a movie to bring back to the house might be a better option. It will allow a more comfortable environment. It is more convenient to focus less on the movie and more on the date. Bowling is always fun, except the decision of adding more people might construe certain aspects of the date. Walks in the park or on the beach are always a classic and is a good option for those dates that are going well.

The next category of dating is where the guy and girl feel comfortable and at ease with each other. Conversation is not awkward and not an issue anymore. This is where taking bike rides or hiking really can be a great way to spend time together. I've found that something as simple as getting a smoothie and going to the bookstore can be some of the most enjoyable time spent with your date. Sometimes not always having plans is a good thing. Some people like the excitement of the unexpected.

You are absolutely right - something as simple as getting a drink and hanging out at a bookstore or whatever can be a great date. Or just go to a park and walk on a trail or sit by a lake on a bench and drink a coke. I don't need expensive dates to have an enjoyable time!

Nice hubpage, Brad. I appreciate your information as I've been a woman on the dating scene for many years. Having a man's perspective on dating might help me to be able to make some of my future date's go just a little smoother :-)

By the way, it sounds like you would be an awesome guy to have a date with.

Jill
