Dating is hard enough as it is, and since you are going to have to deal with the stress of meeting your date initially, getting up the nerve to ask someone on a date, then saying yes, and more. So, with all this pressure, you do not need the added pressure of trying to think of something appropriate to do for your date.

The truth is, while dinner, movies, etc. are all okay dates, some date ideas are more appropriate for certain dates than others. For example, what you do for a first date is going to be very different from what you are going to do for a romantic date, or for a cheap date. So, let's look at some great DATE ideas based on what kind of date it is:

First Dates:

First date ideas are not always easy to come up with, and the fact is that they can make you or break you with whether or not the relationship will go to second date. Here are some ideas for first dates to help you out. Some are inexpensive, some expensive, and some are really creative. Pick what fits your budget and personality best, or simply use these ideas to help get you thinking of your own ideas:

First Date Ideas:

1. Picnic at the beach

Going to the beach on a first date is a great idea if you live close enough to one. You can take a picnic, a blanket, or some fun sand games like a volleyball or castle building stuff. This is a great date because it is cheap, it gives you plenty of time for chit chat, and you can get a tan or take a dip while on your date.

2. The movies on your own

Movies are a classic date, but sometimes for a first date they are a bad idea because they do not leave much room for chit chat. So, instead of going to a traditional movie, set up your own drive-in. You can pop popcorn, let your date select the feature, and create a cozy place to sit in the back of a truck while watching the movie outside. This is also a great double date idea, so invite someone else so you can get to know each other, and have a comfortable relaxing time. The set up time will give you plenty of time for chit chat.

3. Visit a nearby theme park Big or small, everybody loves theme parks.

This is a great date idea because theme parks have plenty of ride options, and the waiting in lines gives you plenty of time to chat and get to know each other better. Avoid going to parks that are too far away, sometimes too long of a car ride will mean running out of stuff to say. So, if you are going on a long drive, have your date bring their favorite CD's and get ready to chat about music interests. 4. Eat in Show off your culinary skills on a comfortable first date. Sometimes going out can be uncomfortable because if the date is going bad you have to wait around for cooking times, and for your server to bring your check. Instead, make something at home, eat in, and have some friends over for games after. You can make the evening last as long as you want. Just be sure to keep it casual, no candles, no romantic music.

5. Indoor ice skating - or roller blade in the park

Anything physically active can make for a good first date. Skating or rollerblading are especially fun because you do not have to be in great physical shape to enjoy it, and there are a lot of places set up for this activity. You can also extend this date with a picnic, or with hot chocolate after etc.

6. A sporting activity that you both like

If you are both big basketball fans, then go to a basketball game together, or whatever your sport of choice is. This can be a really great activity. There are tons of people around which tends to take the pressure off, and if you are both into a team, it can be a lot of fun. Go to a professional game together, or catch a college, or even high school game.

7. Kite flying

If your first date falls in the summer, take your date out to the park for a fun date of kite flying. If there is enough wind to get your kite up it can be a very fun, and extremely rewarding date. It is a good time, but also leaves room for getting to know each other and talk time.

8. A trip to the zoo

Everyone likes animals, and a trip to the zoo can be a great date idea. Zoos are usually not too expensive to visit, and seeing the animals, and walking around the exhibits gives you lots of time for talking and fun.

9. Local museum or art gallery

This is only a good idea if you are both interested in museums. However, if you both have an interest in something that is in a museum this can be a lot of fun. You can grab some food before or after to make it a longer or better date.

10. Go to a concert

Take them to see their favorite band in concert. If you both like the same king of music this is a great first date. You can have fun, sing, dance, and talk in between sets. It is a great date sure to be a good time even if your date is a bust.

11. Horseback riding

Take a trip to the nearest horse farm or riding stables and rent horses for a few hours. Going on a horse back ride is entertaining, but also means you can chat and get to know one another. Also, if you want to make the date longer, you can get some food after working up your appetite out on the horses.

12. Under the sea activity

If you live near the ocean, one unforgettable, and great date activity is to go for a little snorkel or scuba adventure. Make sure your date is comfortable being in a bathing suit before you make this your date plans, but if they do not have any objections, a date under the water looking at what the ocean has to offer can be an absolute blast.

13. A sky filled activity.

Doing something up in the air can be a great first date. For example, take a first flying lesson together, or go for a hot air balloon ride, or maybe if you are daring enough, go sky diving. This is a unique and fun date.

Okay, so now you have some great first date ideas that leave plenty of room for fun and talking to get to know each other. The point of a date is to get to know each other better while having a good time. As you get to know one another better and better your dates can become more event filled, and leave less time for just conversation.

The following are some general date ideas:

1. Go for food.

Everyone loves to eat, and so eating is always a good date idea, but it can also be a very boring, or very typical date. So, make getting food more exciting by grocery shopping together then going back to your house and fixing dinner for one another. Or, try different types of food, for example, if you have never had Indian food, find your nearest Indian restaurant and give it a try. Maybe get appetizers out, and eat the rest of dinner in, or get dessert out, and the rest of your meal in, etc. Make eating out more fun.

2. Do something outside in the great outdoors.

Fun outdoor dates can be just about anything. You can go up a canyon and make tin foil dinners. You can raft down a river, or go fishing on a lake. You can go rock climbing in nature. You can plant flowers or trees as a community clean up effort. You can play Frisbee out in a field. You can go bird watching. You can swim in a natural hot spring. You can do all sorts of fun dates outside. Whether you want to hit a lake for some water fun and fishing, or stick to land and make an outdoor meal or go hiking, an outdoor date is fun, physical, and means lots of conversation time.

3. Go to a bookstore.

If you both love to read, a fun date can be to go to a local bookstore, preferably one with a coffee shop. Browse the books together, and pick out something that looks interesting. You can sit and chat about your favorite genre or authors over a cup of coffee and a scone, or you can sit together and read. A great follow up to this date would be to discuss your books over dinner, or while rollerblading, hiking, etc.

4. Go to a show, concert, symphony, etc.

Something that is always a great date is a cultural event like seeing the Opera, or a symphony. You can go to a Broadway show, or to a local theater production or play. These type of activities are not just fun, but provide great conversation starters, and can help you get to know one another's interests better. Follow them up with a milkshake, or meal for more time to chat or discuss the performance.

These are just a few dating ideas, use them to get your creative juices flowing, and come up with your own great date ideas.

Going to a museum is cool, you can have dinner afterwards! I think going to a concert is not that cool for a first date, since you can't really talk there.
