Women Pheromones - Attract a Guy
As I walked through the Men's Department...
Not long ago, I was walking through the men's department at Macy's...on my way to the cosmetics counter.
As I passed the men's fragrances, something made me stop and look around. I paused, looking over the glass-topped counter at the sparkling displays of men's colognes.
Normally, I would just pass it by. I'm not dating anyone, so shopping for men's scents just isn't in my realm of thinking.
But, I stopped because I smelled something so familiar, I felt like my heart had stopped for a moment. What was it? What made me stop? What was the scent?
I had stopped in my tracks because...
I slowly walked around the counter, looking at the displays of bottles. Green, blue, crystal-colored bottles and containers...all designed to appeal to the male shopper.
But, I'm not male and yet I had stopped in my tracks because of a tiny whiff of something. It made me think of dancing, being in a crowded bar, where a sea of young men and women laughed, danced, and flirted.
And it came to me.
There was something else that made me nearly shake in his presence...
I lifted my nose a bit higher and I remembered. Glen.
The one guy I couldn't have, but wanted. He was tall and very dark with a black beard and smiling eyes.
Yes, he was appealing, but there was something else that made me nearly shake in his presence—his scent.
I could remember bending down, asking for his order, and waiting while he thought about his gin and tonic or his micro-brew. I smelled a mix of Egyptian tuberose, Italian sandalwood, patchouli, and amber.
I drew the scent in and watched him smile. That scent was imprinted forever on my brain.
I learned later it was Drakkar Noir. He asked to use my phone once, and for a couple of hours his scent lingered on the metal and plastic casing. Every time I made a call, the scent reminded me of my attraction to this man.

It stirs up powerful feelings...
It's probably been 15 years, but whenever I smell that men's cologne, I think of Glen.
It's certainly not because I miss him or even think of him any longer. But, I automatically associate that scent with another time in my life—and it stirs up powerful feelings.
So, what is it about scent that affects us in such a powerful way? Why is it that some scents appeal to us and some don't? We're human, and as such, we associate our senses to our memories. Our senses are powerful. They can make us happy, sad, afraid, comforted.
I learned recently that it may not have just been the cologne he wore, but rather, how his body chemicals made it smell to ME. I had probably been affected as much by natural pheromones as I was by the scent of sandalwood.
You're probably wondering, "What are pheromones?" They are natural chemical scents the body produces to communicate with others nearby. Well documented in the animal kingdom, they are the force that controls all social behavior, including mating. Scientists are now finding that human behavior is heavily influenced by them.
They affect how often we have sex...
Subliminal scents—sex attractants or pheromones—influence how animals develop, mate, bond, and nurture their offspring. As humans, we are no different.
Odors can accelerate puberty, control women's menstrual cycles, and even influence sexual orientation. They help us differentiate lovers and family members from strangers. They affect how often we have sex, how our brains develop, what we remember, and how we learn.
Now that I know more about natural pheromones, when I think of Glen and his Drakkar Noir cologne, I'm reminded that it wasn't just his presence, the cologne, or his close proximity to me as I served him drinks, it was animal magnetism, caused by natural human pheromones...his natural scent and body chemicals that attracted me to him.
That's why even now, 15 years later, I can walk down an isle in a department store and be reminded of a time and a person that I'd mostly forgotten about. Pheromones and human memory are often tied together.
They make us uniquely human and remind us of moments, events, holidays that make up the fabric of our human ties.
