DAVAO CITY DESTINATIONS

The City of Davao is the largest city of the Philippines located in the island of Mindanao with the land area of 2,444 square kilometers.  In Southern Philippines, it is the one of the most progressive cities with its busy international airport and seaport.

 

Davao is group into two: Davao del Sur and Davao del Norte in Region XI with population of approximately 1,660,000. It became city on October 16, 1936 through the Commonwealth Act No. 51 proclaimed by President Manuel Quezon.

 

Davao is rich with its own cultures, arts and history.  It has indigenous tribes and among them are the Bagobo, Mandaya, Mansaka, Manobo, Ata and B’laan who are living around Davao river and the hills of Buhangin, Magtuod, Maa, and Matina.

Metro Davao was also ranked among the 20 Most Livable Cities in Asia by the Asiaweek.

It is also called the City of Royalties (The Royal City) as the home of the nature’s kings and queens. The Mt Apo (The highest peak and king of the Philippine mountains), the Philippine Eagle (The king of the Philippine skies), the Waling-waling (The Queen of the Philippine Orchids), the Durian (The king of Exotic fruits) and it is also one of the world’s largest cities.

Metro Davao composed of DavaoCity, TagumCity, PanaboCity, Island Garden City of Samal, DigosCity, and the Municipalities of Carmen and Sta. Cruz which are fast growing. It is because of the rising business, investment and eco tourism. It has been endowed with some of the finest nature’s treasure: finest beaches and mountain resorts, highest peak (MountApo) captivating diving spots, refreshing falls and springs, several plantations fruits, vegetables, abaca and other crops.

The Philippine Eagle (pithecophaga jefferyi) one of the largest eagles in the world sheltered in Malagos at the Philippine Eagle Center. This nature center is primarily established as the breeding facility for the eagles but it also plays habitat to different animals endemic in the country.

There’s also the Marine Turtle Sanctuary located in Punta Dumalag peninsula. It is a 2-kilometer white sand beach where Hawksbill turtles are known to lay their eggs. It is taken care of by the Task Force Pawikan Davao, an organization dedicated to conserve and protect marine turtles within the territorial jurisdiction. The sanctuary is also engaged in recovery, tagging and the rescue of illegally captured and detained marine turtles.

Through land travel via the scenic Pan-Philippine or Maharlika Highway, it takes around 42 hours.
