David Blaine: Greatest Magician
55David Blaine was born on April 4th 1973 in Brooklyn, New York to Patrice Maureen White and William Perez. His mother was a school teacher while his father was a Vietnam Veteran. David Blaine had never known who his father was. His mother was single while rasing him until she married John Bukalo, in 1983, and had David Blaine’s step brother, Michael Bukalo.
David Blaine grew up to be one of the best magicians and endurance performers we have known. David began his career by doing street magic and was asked to do a television production after performing at celeberty parties. This was nothing for what was to come. He has done several unimaginable acts that most people wouldn’t dream of doing.
In April 1999, David Blaine buried himself alive outside the Trump Towers. Donald Trump was the one who buried him. He was buried for seven days without any food or water and came out alive but very weak.
In November 2000, Blaine was entombed in a massive block of ice. After 61 hours of being entombed, he emerged from the ice on national TV. It was raining heavily that day but people still stopped by to witness it. He was also watched by thousands of people on a live television special. All of this occured at Times Square in New York City.
In May 2002, David Blaine perched himself on top of an 83-foot pillar with no safety nets, in New York City’s Bryant Park. He spent 35 hours on the pillar and had encountered a bad wind and rain storm. He remained unharmed until it was time to come down. He jumped down onto a 12 foot high pile of cardboard boxes and received a concussion.
In September 2003, Blaine went overseas to London where he was hanging in a small clear box. He remained in this box for 44 days while starving himself. Some Londoners did not take too kindly to him and threw things at him while he was in his box. Others threw taunts and insults at him. While even more people barbequed hamburgers under his cage so the starving man above would be able to do nothing but savour the smell.
In May 2006, Blaine performed his last stunt (to date). Blaine was to be locked up in a large sphere full of water. He had fasted a week before this stunt to avoid having a bowel movement and used a catheter for anything else. He was fed liquids through intravenous and used an air tube to be able to breath. Several days into the stunt he began complaining of an ear ache and joint pain but he stayed the full 8 days. As part of his stunt, he had a police officer hand cuff him before he left the sphere. He wanted to see how long he could hold his breath underwater and if he could break the world record. He lasted long enough to get the cuffs off before his body began convulsing. He held his breath under water for 7 minutes while the record was for 8 minutes 58 seconds.
David Blaine has a very interesting career but putting your body through this much over and over cannot be good for him. I wonder what he is doing these days and if he will ever do another stunt?
