64David Bowie Memories of Serious Moonlight at Milton Keynes Bowl
I've been wanting to write a David Bowie Hub for a while now and never quite had the time to do it. Today is the day to begin. As with all of my hubs its a combination of my memories and personal experiences linked together with video.
David Bowie has been a significant influence on my life and philosophy. His attitude to personal transformation struck a chord with me and I've used the principles within my own career and coaching. The idea that we all transform ourselves into different characters either in different situations or over time is useful on a personal level because whatever difficulty I may be facing it is always possible to transform myself into somebody with the skills to overcome and master the situation.
I spent a gloriously hot day at Milton Keynes Bowl watching bowie perform on the serious moonlight tour and that performance is the gold standard for me by which I assess rock n roll performance. It is theatre and should never be considered anything less.

This gig was a huge disapointment for me, I was expecting bowie to give me something to savour and enjoy for years to come, instead of which what we got was overblown glam rock spectacle which was way past its sell by date. The gig did produce a late night bar in sunderland so it has left a legacy, but not necessarily the one that was intended.
The main thing I remeber about the gig is that it was a tuesday evening and therain was lashing in from the sea. Unfortunately the winged finale on the roof of the stadium didn't take place as the weather conditions made the health and safety of mr bowie a factor.

When did I stop wanting to be David Bowie? Too recently for a Man of a Certain Age is the short but sufficiently mortifying answer.
