David Haye
Who is David Haye
David "Hayemaker" Haye is a british cruiserweight and heavyweight boxer. He was born David Deron Haye in London, England on October 13, 1980.
Amateur Career
As an amateur he competed as a light heavyweight in the 1999 World Amateur championships, losing to american boxer Michael Simms. Two years later in the 2001 World Amateur Championships he would move up in weight to heavyweight to fight and defeat Sebastian Kober, but receive the silver medal in the final round with his fight with Odlanier Solis.
Professional Career
He would turn professional shortly after in 2002. His first fight as a professional would be against Tony Booth who he would defeat by knock out. In 2003 he would win all seven of his fights by knock out. His defeat of Tony Dowling would make him the english cruiserweight champion. He would later fight for the IBO title against Carl Thompson and lose. In 2005, Haye would come back recharged after his loss, knocking out Alexander Gurov in 45 seconds and win the EBU European cruiserweight championship title. At this time he would move up in weight class for his first time for a single match, knocking out Tomasz Bonin.
World Champ
In the fall of 2007, Haye would face WBA and WBC cruiserweight champion Jean-Marc Mormeck, winning in the 7th round. With this win he would pick up his first WBA and WBC world championship belts. At the start of 2008 he would face and defeat Enzo Maccarinelli in the All-British World Cruiserweight championship, knocking Maccarinelli out in the second round.
Move Up To Heavyweight
After his win against Enzo Maccarenelli, he announced that win as his last match at the cruiserweight level, vacating his recently won WBC cruiserweight championship title. It is said he wants to emulate Evander Holyfield move up from cruiserweight to heavyweight.
Currently
He holds the The Ring Magazine, WBA, WBO cruiserweight championships. It is rumored that he is in the talks of facing Wladimir Klitschko in late 2008 or early 2009.
Overall
His career to date is 22 professional fights, 21 of his fights have been wins. 20 of his wins have been by way of knockout. He has lost one match. He has zero draws and zero no contests.
