Day Care Background Checks: A Must for all Parents

Our children mean the world to us. In fact, we would do everything possible to be able to give them what they need and to protect them against any kind of harm. However, we cannot undermine the fact that parents need to work, and when they do, they need to leave their children in the hands of another caregiver.

This is where day cares come in. It is very convenient for parents to leave their kids at day care centers so that they will be tended to and cared for while the parents go to work. The only worrisome part in this scenario is the fact that in today’s world, it is already quite hard to tell which people can be trusted and which people cannot.

So how do you know if you are leaving your kid in safe hands? One possible way to do that is to do a background check on the day care center first before you entrust your child to them. It is never safe to assume that just because a day care center is certified and is decorated with lots of wonderful and colorful cartoony wallpapers that it is already a safe haven for your child. You can never be too careful these days and you certainly do not want your kid to be associated with anyone who could inflict possible harm on him.

Background checks are the effective way of determining if a particular day care center would be a fitting and safe care provider for your child. In fact, this is more efficient than to simply rely on references since nowadays, it is so easy for any company to ask a person to pretend to be a reference and say wonderful things about it.

Some parents are unsure about background checks, feeling that it is weird to snoop around other people’s business. But if you think about it, it is your business to ensure the safety of your kid and if it takes a little investigating to do that, then there is nothing wrong with that.

Here are other reasons why it is all right to do a background check on day care centers:

1. It is necessary. Day care centers need to be able to provide utmost safety and protection for your child. But the fact that many child-care workers have been found to have criminal records from their past is something that can make parents worry. A background check will help you avoid bringing your kid to a day care center, which unknowingly has hired a sex offender.

2. So many people are doing this. Many parents also undertake this type of procedure so you are not the only parent in the world who is going to do some investigation to ensure the safety of your little one.

3. Any childcare center who is sincerely concerned about children and your family will understand and welcome a background check. If a certain day care center is not willing to do this, then it is probably because the people in it are hiding something and you surely do not want your kid to have anything to do with these people.

Types of possible background checks for day care centers

* Criminal background check – this is probably the area any parent will be most concerned about. This type of background check will give you a peace of mind knowing that your kid would not be put into the hands of someone who has previously committed felonies like sexual abuse, kidnapping or violent behavior.

* Court record checks – related to the first type of check, this meanwhile gives criminal history information and civil records.

* Driving record background check – although this may sound irrelevant since you would not allow your kid to be driven anywhere by any person in the day care center, this is still essential because it may reveal necessary information like if a person has ever been involved in any drunk driving convictions.

* Credit report check – this check will give you an idea on the kind of maturity and responsibility a person has. A childcare provider who has negligence over things like her mortgages, may also not be responsible enough to tend for your child.

* Health record check – of course, you would want your childcare provider to be physically and mentally healthy when she takes care of your child and this is the best way to determine that.

It is virtually impossible to make this world a completely safe place for our little ones, but despite all the possible dangers of the outside world, we can be one-step ahead and protect our child against all these.
