 Would you like to be notified when a new article is added to the Crafts-Hobbies category? A lanyard is the cording or strap that holds these items, like a necklace, around your neck. To get a similar look and feel with your lanyard if crystals are not an option, try using faceted glass beads.

Ever want to create your own lanyard instead of leaving it up to the professionals? You'll need lanyard materials such as boondoggle, craftlace or monofilament, and of course, beads. Place a metal loop at the center, one that will hold the lanyard object (key, id badge, etc). Quick! How Can I Make a Lanyard?

Instructions Things You’ll Need:

* Boondoggle
thread

* Scissors

* Step 1: Cut two lengths
of the plastic thread or boondoggle. With the
box stitch, you'll make about an inch of braided
length for every 12 to 14 inches of thread. Find
the center of the two lengths of plastic thread.
The easiest way to do this is to fold each piece
in half and mark the center.

* Step 2: Take
the two threads and cross them over each other
at a 90-degree angle. Take one side of the
thread that is on the bottom, or thread 1, and
fold it over the top thread, which is thread 2.
It will create a loop over the top thread. Take
the other side of the thread and fold it over
the top thread. You'll end up with two loops.

*
Step 3: Take one side of thread 2 and weave it
over the first loop of thread 1 and under the
second loop. Do the same for the other side of
the top thread. This will start the lanyard.
Take thread 1 again and fold each side of the
lanyard to create two loops again.

* Step 4:
Weave the two sides of thread 2 over the first
loop and under the second loop. Take the two
sides of thread 2 and fold them over the top of
the lanyard to create two loops.

* Step 5:
Weave the two sides of thread 1 over the first
loop and under the second loop made by thread 2.

* Step 6: Repeat steps 6 through 9,
alternating which thread to use to create the
loops and which thread to weave through the
loops.

* Step 7: Weave the thread until your
lanyard is as long as you want. Tie a knot in
the end to keep the lanyard from unraveling.
Trim the ends of lanyard so that they are even.
