Deactivating Registry Editor

Unfortunately the Registry Editor is an open program which can be used by anyone. Your and family can just use it without you knowing it. For that reason, it may be good idea to just deactivate the program in windowsxp if you aer certain that you don't need it anymore. There is a very quick and easy way. All you need to do is to run a registry file.

  • Just run Notepad from 'Start | All Programs | Accessories'.
  • Then copy the registry list as shown in the below.

Windows Registry Editor 5.0

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "DisableRegistryTooks"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NosaveSettings"=dword:00000000

  • Once you are done. save it by going to 'File | Save As' and rename tha file as 'NoRegedit.REG' in a folder of your choice. Do keep in mind that you need to save the file in the REG extension on order to run it
  • Now you may double-click on the registry file to run it. you can also run the file by right-clicking and selecting 'Merge'
  • Confirm all questions by clicking 'YES'
  • Restart your PC, Try running the program now by going to 'Start | Run' and entering REGEDIT. it will no longer work.
