56What is angelic child behavior? This is a child that plays a game at being perfect all the time. This game is directed at adults. This type of child will engage in activities, behaviors, and actions that give the perception that they are always good. The tell people exactly what they want to hear and act perfectly in front of authority figures. The main reason for behaving this way is power. The child wants power over adults, power over teachers, and power over parents.
Dealing with the angelic child is difficult because of the deceitful nature of the behavior. One method of changing the behavior is giving the child something significant to do. As they complete the task, let them know that just completing the task does not need a huge amount of praise but just recognition that the task is complete. Talk to the child about being who they are and that pretending to be something that they are not can cause people to loose trust in them.
The main reason for the behavior is pressure for acceptance. Take off that pressure and talk to your child. When you talk to the child, talk about fun things instead achievement and success. Use humor when you are the child makes mistakes so that the child can see that it is okay to make them. Show the child other projects or works of other children so that they can see the imperfections of others and it is okay not to be perfect. Things to avoid with this type of child is overly criticizing them or dealing with the child in anger or disgust.
