A Book you cannot put down!
I just finished the latest Dean Koontz novel "Relentless", and I loved it!
I have always been a diehard Koontz fan--I've read all of his books--most many times over--and own all but a coupleĀ of them. Lately, though, a couple of his later novels just didn't do much for me, and I finished reading them feeling a little disappointed. Probably it's my fault--I have had him on this pedestal of brilliant writers for years, and for years he never left me wanting more at the end of his novels.
But this last book has wiped out all of my fears--it's right up there with so many of his others. I read it in two nights, and now wish I'd stretched it out more, as I have the long wait until his next one comes out...
"Relentless" is about a successful novelist named Cullen "Cubby" Greenwich, and is married to Penny, who is a children's book author and illustrator. They have a six year old son, Milo, who's IQ level is off of the chart, and is always working on mysterious projects that baffle his parents. And of course, as in most Dean Koontz novels, there is a marvelous dog, named Lassie(and she is NOT a collie), who is constantly being found in the most unusual places.
Cubby releases a new book, which receives a bad review from a man named Shearman Waxx. Events spiral out of control after that, with Waxx becoming a stalker, determined to kill Cubby and his family. What ensues is a terrifying, nail-biting chase, as the Greenwiches try to stay one step ahead of this madman.
Interspersed throughout this book, though, is plenty of the famous Dean Koontz humor--he has an amazing talent for adding humor in the most terrifying situations. I consider this one of his finest abilities as an author.
I would highly recommend this book to those who love thrillers, mystery, a little bit of sci-fi, and humor, all rolled into one! I loved it, and I am sure others will, too, even if you've never picked up a Dean Koontz novel before! And if you've never read his works, this one will definitely have you running to the library or the bookstore for more of his books!

Oh, gosh--how did I forget to mention that you gave this book to me for my birthday???lol
Okay--I admit--U R GENEEIOUS...haha...~~hugs~~
I too am a huge fan of Koontz. I have all his books except for this one and the other new ones as I left at the beginning of the year. I look forward to diving into this one. Plus I also look forward to Frankenstein book 3.
I am a James Patterson fan myself. My daughter is a Dean Koontz fan among others, and use to read a novel in one night. She's a nurse, and when she worked private duty, she always liked the 12p to 12a shift, and that's when she would read. Good review!
Thanks wesleycox! When you get the chance to read this book, I'm sure you won't be disappointed--it really is one of those edge-of-your-seat reads! I have about given up on Frankenstein 3--have you heard anything about its release?
fastfreta--Thanks so much for your comments--I like James Patterson, too, but I haven't read him in awhile--need to check him out again! I'm glad your daughter likes Koontz--has she tried to talk you into readng him yet?lol
I am not sure when that one will be released but I guess mid 2010. Thats usually when he releases those. I am going to get the rest of his when I come home.
Ahhh, okay, thank you wesley!:)
It's nice to see when a writer is resurgent like this. Thanks, TamCor
I have heard of this book, it sounds really good.
dori
Tom--I agree! And you're welcome!:)
Dori--It really is a great read!
Thanks for the comments!
I really appreciate this recommendation. I am always looking for good authors. My latest discovery is Faye Kellerman, recommended by a friend. I especially like her Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus books, but I'm almost through that set. So I just bought Relentless. Can't wait to try it!
jgrider--I'm so glad you bought the book. I'm sure you'll enjoy it--I wouldn't be surprised if you wanted to go out and get more Dean Koontz books after this one, lol. That's what happened to me, the first time I read one of his about 20 years ago now! Let me know what you think of it, okay?
I really like Faye Kellerman, too, and also her husband, Jonathan--both great authors!
I know this book and never read it! I guess I might give it a shot, thanks dear.
Shamel.
You're welcome, Shamel--I hope you like it as well as I did! :)
That sounds Sooooo GOOD TamCor. I will definitely add it to my list to buy and read.
