Film Review: Death of a President

Directed by Gabriel Range, Death of a President is a documentary that depicts a fictional assassination of President George W. Bush.

The controversial hype surrounding this film focuses on the imagined assassination, which in fact, receives very little emphasis in the film. Instead, emphasis was placed on the investigation itself into the killing.

Unfortunately, the publicity that surrounded Death Of A President was much better than the film itself. What had promised to be a gripping drama, left me feeling bored and disappointed.

At times I felt that actors were reading from a canned script; their voices flat and monotone. They sounded too mechanical. As a result, watching these actors share memories that supposedly took place before and after the assasination turns into a complete snooze-fest.

The endless interviewing that takes place in Death of a President is what makes this film forgettable. The creators of this film had a great idea and story-line, but failed to run with the ball. The interviews, undoubtedly, could have been shortened. But then I suppose they wouldn't have had enough filler to make this a feature-length film.
