The responsible parties at the Food Network caution our consumption of raw and/or lightly-cooked eggs. Yet the risk of salmonella or any other food-borne illness did not deter me from attempting this indulgent recipe. Also the fact that I could make this without an ice cream machine and actually have it for dessert that same day is even more commendable - especially since it was my husband's birthday and I wanted to please him with a romantic dinner at home with every facet of the meal created from scratch. I have never prided myself on my culinary expertise, so I thought he would be that much more impressed with my efforts. In fact everything went off without a hitch and the flavors and tastes far exceeded the effort and every minute was well worthy of celebration. Enough reminiscing on a fantastic night and now let me explain this great recipe for homemade ice cream.

You will need the following ingredients and since I was extremely nervous to be doing this for the first time I followed this recipe exactly:

3 egg yolks

1 (14 ounce) can of condensed milk

4 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup of Oreos, coarsely chopped

2 cups of heavy whipping cream

Separate the three egg yolks and place them in a large mixing bowl. (I saved the egg whites to make omelets in the morning for brunch.) Beat the egg yolks with an electric mixer and then stir in the condensed milk and vanilla extract. Now set this bowl aside. Grab another mixing bowl and pour in the 2 cups of heavy whipping cream and mix until achieving a whipped cream consistency (think of cool whip). Now fold the whipped cream and crushed cookies into your egg mixture. Be sure to fold and not stir so the mix remains airy. Pour this mixture into a 9-ich x 5-inch cake pan. I lined the pan with parchment paper to keep it from sticking to the sides. I would recommend either foil or parchment paper. After pouring the mix into the pan, cover and freeze for 6 - 8 hours or until firm.

To serve simply uncover and scoop directly from the pan. Also I recommend spicing it up with your favorite crushed candy bar!!!

No problem. I really hope it works out for you... also go crazy with it!! Any topping you could imagine could work well with this. Although I have yet to venture too far from the 1 cup instruction just in case. As I mentioned before, I am no culinary genius=-)
