Back pain is a common feature in many peoples lives. From lack of exercise, sitting in the same position too long, lifting heavy objects awkwardly or even from some kind of trauma, back pain can be a debilitating ailment. Rather than turning to medication or even surgery in some cases, spinal decompression therapy can prove very effective for many people.

Far too often people ignore back pain and carry on with their normal routines, taking painkillers or anti-inflammatory tablets to help them get through the day. When back pain is severe it should be taken seriously, and medical advice should be sought before any type of self-treatment is undertaken. Rupturing a disc can be done so easily, with a movement such as a sudden twist or unexpected jolt, the pain is sudden and sharp, but may subside a little making you think it wasn't anything too serious and carry on regardless.

Ruptured discs can lead to pressure on nerves or vertebrae rubbing together resulting in great pain. If left untreated the damage that can be caused leads to further pain, and could in time result in needing some form of spinal or disc surgery to correct the damage. Decompression therapy works by stretching out the spine, giving any damaged discs a chance to re-position themselves, meaning the pressure is taken off nerves and the pain is relieved. It is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that can be carried out at a walk-in clinic. It may take a course of treatment to obtain total relief from severe back pain, however it has been proven that the results acheived with decompression therapy are long lasting. There are many clinics offering decompression therapy, many of whom will be happy to send you brochures with full details on the types of treatment and courses of treatment they offer.

Decompression therapy has also proved to be very effective in cases where surgery hasn't been as successful as hoped, due to the fact it can be tailored on a case by case basis, providing the right amount of stretching over the right time frame for each patient.

If you are suffering from back pain and are yet to find a treatment that provides you with adequate pain relief then you may well be a perfect candidate for decompression therapy.
