Dental Bridge - Cosmetic Denistry

Dental Bridge, Cosmetic Dentistry, I think I was only about 10 when I got beaten up and got my front teeth broken. Well to be honest they were not completely broken, one was half broke and the other broke in the shape of a triangle, just like a vampires.

It was no fun going through those teenage years being called Dracula, Fang, Vampire Boy and that was just from my parents. Unfortunately the dental treatment I needed was only provided once you reached 17 and once I hit that age the tooth decay had well bit into the half broken tooth and it was drilled to a stump and then crowned by the dentist as was the Vampire one.

How I lost My Dental Crowns

I got my crowns fitted at 17 and man they were a great job, jeeez I had to fight those chicks off with a stick, I no longer looked like the kid from " Deliverance" I with my new dental crowns looked really good. Teeth do matter and for years I rarely smiled, jeez people even to this day still call me a grumpy old git but back then it was like living a new life.

The bad news was about 20 years later I took an abcess behind my two crowns and I had to have them both extracted. Jeeeez now instead of looking like a Vampire I looked like my damn granny with her teeth out, not my wise old gran, she died years ago.

So the dentist decided to put in a lovely plate, not that type of plate you moron, a dental plate with 2 false teeth on it but the damn thing kept slipping out. What was I to do, twas kinda embarrasing eating my lunch in front of co-workers and my teeth coming out onto the sandwich, the answer my friends was cosmetic denistry and a dental bridge.

Getting A Dental Bridge Fitted

I was told by a friend that a dental bridge was both expensive and extensive work but I didn't realise just how much was involved in it. Firstly I had to wait well over 6 months until my gums healed fully after my 2 extractions before I could get my bridgework done. The dental bridge was going to take a few hours work and when she put goggles on me I was thinking what is this for. I wish i hadn't have asked because the reply was to prevent any stray bits of bone hitting me in the eye.

Firstly was the injection which my female dentist always applies a bit of gel first to freeze the gum beforehand. I always laugh when she says you won't feel this going in, for some reason I am always tempted to say " you would " but I resist. I hate when they pack you back to the waiting room until the injection takes. The old granny and the kid looking at you and I force that hey I am tough as hell smile until the dentist peers around the corner and says " We are ready for you Art". Yeah I wish you were babe, I wish you were.

Getting a dental bridge although a long piece of dental surgery is really very simple, it's all a matter of implants. They drill 2 holes up into the jawbone and then put in 2 little metal posts, cut the gums and implant 2 porcelin teeth over the posts and then pull your cut gums over the tooth. Was it painful, no I actually never felt a damn thing. Just curious, hands up if you close your eyes when you are getting dental work, yeah me too, you lot with your hands down why do you want to look up a dentists nostrils for an hour.

Anyways back in the dental chair the sweat is dripping off my brow as the posts are screwed deep into my jawbone, jeeez those two babies won't be coming out anytime soon. Then I do actually take a peek and see her holding the two teeth all ready to be placed over the two metal posts, I am so excited I almost pee myself until I see the small scalpel cutting my gums so the teeth can be fully embedded into my gums.

It's all over and she hands me a mirror and damn I can't help myself saying it " Mirror, mirror in my hand, who has the best damn bit of bridgework in the land, you Art ! " It was just so perfect that they were better than my crowns in that they looked so natural and unlike false teeth they didn't come out at night. I was one happy puppy, my smile had returned.

Dental Bridge Aftercare

Well I have had my dental bridge a few years now and I am still as happy as a sandbird, look what's with the happy sandbird, have you even seen a sandbird? Anyways you have to floss up behind the gaps in dental bridges to keep the gums healthy and make sure you visit your dentist every 6 months.

Another thing is don't go biting into something hard like an apple or something similar, cut it in half. Would I recommend getting a dental bridge, yes I would because having two false teeth at the front was just embarrassing because they kept slipping. My dental bridge back then cost me about $500 and it took me forever to save it but trust me it was worth every penny.

So funny story about your childhood :) I never liked the dentists and avoided them many times... They scare me! These dental operations must've cost you a fortune HT coz I know that denistry is damn so expensive at your end? Hope your family didn't have to live on fresh air and love after this :)

Lady E - Getting a gold tooth is easy, you just get your ordinary tooth capped, a simple dental operation. My Golden Girl ; )

Lancelonie I reckon a bridge now is about £500 UK pounds, but well worth it !

BookFlame - Thank you as always for your continued support !

I have 3 dental bridges and 2 crowns. Luckily I have dental insurance. I wish that dental implants had been an option, when I had the bridges done. But I think that they are worth every penny. They keep other teeth stable and that protects the health of your jaw bone. I've learned that good dental health really does relate to good overall health. My dentist has me using this high-powered anti-bacterial mouth wash and toothpaste. And I haven't had any problems in over 3 years, which might be a record for me.

Thanks Kiera !

Nelle what can I say, that is one lovely smile you have so my congrats to your Dentist. With my past heart attack I also know the relationship to heart disease from bad dental health so it's why I look after mine. Thanks for the comment and enjoy your weekend !

Well this does answer many questions I had about implants. My mum really could use some help but with no dental bone left, there's really nothing left to do. Or so we've been told by the prosthesdontist. Even new dentures have no place to rest.

Thanks for this informative article. Funny and helpful.

PegCole17 - Tell your mum it doesn't matter if she has no dental bone. I had nothing but my 2 gums, she drilled deep into my upper jawbone and then inserted the metal posts, so your mum can get this done. Get a 2nd opinion !

Hey there Health Tip your second paragraph had me rolling. My parents were the worst offenders of "teasedom" (might write a hub on this one, LOL). I am glad you wrote this as I have been very nervous about getting a bridge. My upper adult canine never grew in, so I had this baby tooth for 27 years until it finally decided to fall out. Now I'm noticing that my front tooth is trying to "close the hole" and navigating further and further from the other teeth. Another couple of years and I'll look like the female version of the boy from Deliverance (banjo and all).

Okay so you took away some of my fears about the appearance of the bridge, but there is still the money thing (which scares me a lot more than the vanity part). I was recently quoted $3600.00 for one stinking tooth! Where did you get it done for $500 and how long ago?

Thanks for the info. Keep up the great hubs my friend!

Neysajasper - No way could I live with a gap, the 6 months I had those 2 front false teeth was the worst 6 months ever, it really is painless and just getting an implant can so change yer looks and confidence, get it done my friend !

Max Sumer - I am glad this hub helped you and put your mind at rest. I felt absolutely nothing but because the surgery took so long my jaw was aching for like weeks. As for the price I took it from one of the google ads but jeeez $3600 is sodding expensive but if you do get it done trust me Max you will be even more pretty than you already are, and you are. I thank you for your comment, feel as if I know you a bit now, I thank you my friend !
