Do you have health insurance? Many people are covered with health insurance. Some get it from their employer and others who are not offered it by their employer or who are self-employed, pay for their own insurance coverage.

Health insurance is very important. It will save you a lot of money because that is what it is designed to do. To be insured means you are promised to be reimbursed in the case of loss. If you have health insurance and you break your arm, it will cost a lot of money, but the health insurance company should reimburse you or pay for it.

Getting Health Insurance

There are several ways to get health insurance. One of the most common ways is to get it from your employer in the form of health benefits. These are benefits you get from your place of employment in addition to retirement benefits, childcare, etc. It's unlikely that you will get health benefits if you work part time or if you work in a lower job such as in a grocery store, at a boutique, at a fast food restaurant, etc.

Getting health benefits is a huge plus at a place of work because health insurance is so expensive. When your employer pays for it, this means you don't have to, and they don't take it out of your salary and pay, it is in addition to your regular payment. You also don't have to pay taxes on those benefits.

If your employer doesn't offer health benefits, you may be able to be covered by your spouse or whoever is supporting you otherwise. For example, if you are only working part time, you must have someone else supporting you whether you are a college student living with your parents or your spouse makes a full time income.

If you have a full time job with no benefits and no health insurance through someone else, you will need to buy your own insurance. You can go without insurance, but that isn't too smart and can end up costing you a lot of money in the long run. Even if it isn't great coverage, you should get insured.

If you are self-employed you will also need to buy your own insurance. Fortunately, you can deduct the expense of your insurance on your taxes. If you have your own business, you will probably need to get health insurance for your employees. There are many low cost ways to do this.

Dental and Vision Insurance

Whether you have a plan from your employer or you buy your own insurance, you have to take into account whether it has dental and vision insurance coverage or not. When you get your own, it's a little easier to customize your plan to make sure it has dental and vision insurance.

If you get a choice with your employer among different plans with varying amounts of coverage with or without dental and vision, you should really consider getting a plan with dental and vision insurance.

Is it Worth it?

Sometimes adding dental and vision insurance just seems like too much of an expense. It may not be so much that it costs more but maybe you don't think you need it. That is not true. Getting full coverage should be what you look for.

Dental insurance is important in order to take care of your teeth. If you don't have insurance, paying for check-ups fillings, and root canals can really add up. Even if you have perfect teeth, you still have to cover your family. For most, dental insurance is a must and is definitely worthwhile because it's going to be cheaper.

It seems like vision insurance isn't worth it if you don't have corrective lenses. You won't need to be buying new contacts or glasses so why get covered, right? Yes, for those who do have corrective lenses, getting vision insurance can save a lot of money, but even for those who don't, vision insurance is worthwhile.

If you don't have glasses yet, you never know if you may need them in the future. Also, doctors look at the health of your eyes which is important to maintain, especially considering how important your eyes are and how important it is to see.

I highly recommend you get covered with dental and vision insurance. The extra price each month is minimal and the savings overall can be huge. Don't take a chance on your eyes and teeth. They are important, too!
