56Talking about Depression helps
My name is Dan and I have been dealing with what is labelled a Major Depressive Disorder for several years.
I wanted to start this blog to help others who suffer from a mental heath problem, and to hopefully educate those who have the wrong idea about depression or those who don't understand it. For example - of my four remaining brothers only one has a clue about depression and knows what I am going through. Others think of it as a way to hide, or to excuse some often weird behaviours.
I welcome feedback and support from my fellow depressed people.
Oh - I do enjoy humor so expect some of that.
My name is Dan. I am 57 - depressed and no longer ashamed of it. I am doing what I can to get better.

I really liked your article. My father has suffered from Bipolar for most of his life, and my brother and I have major depression. I really believe in the importance of getting treatment. I hate anti-depressant drugs, but my father needs them to stay on top of things. My depression is much milder so I try to cope with it through positive thinking, just as you explained in your article. I found a couple of treatments that have helped so many people that I thought you may be interested in knowing about. You can read about it on a website called:
www.howto-dealwithdepression.com This website has an article about the 3 main treatments for depression. I enjoyed the concise practical information I found on that site and it has now motivated me to help others with this information.
I must say though, that by looking at what you wrote in this article, you know a lot about depression. Thank you for contributing such an excellent article. I know for sure that many people will appreciate the accurate information!

Not sure if you are depressed or not?
There is a simple test and can give a fairly good indication of your wellness. Remember that it is normal to fell down from time to time - no one can be happy all the time, life events happen.
But if you are concerned that you might be suffering from depression take the test that I found on the web as a good starting point.
There is help, there is hope and you can get better. For those of us who have been diagnosed with a major depressive disorder, there are medications and counseling and all sorts of help.
