Couture fashions are tagged as luxury wear and expensive as well as difficult to obtain fashion apparels. The word couture is French and is used to describe apparel that is created by top designers for exclusive clientele. Fashion shows are held to display the designs. Models wearing the fashions walk down the runway while fashion photographers, buyers from exclusive boutiques and celebrities watch from the audience. The biggest semi-annual event in couture is called Fashion Week where design houses show off their collections.

There are different designs of couture apparel readily available. You will see celebrities walking the red carpet in custom made couture gowns sewn especially for them. Then you will see the rich and/or famous in what is known as ready to wear couture. Even the average person can afford some ready to wear fashions depending on the price and availability. Many top designers make both haute couture and ready to wear items. Some even offer their lower priced items in popular department stores. For example you can find Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren clothes in many stores.
