The Detroit Science Center Makes Learning Fun for All Ages

Fun for Every Age
Growing up in the suburbs of Detroit, some of my fondest memories at school were the class fieldtrips taken to the various museums downtown. One of my favorites was the Detroit Science Center.
I admit part of my excitement was that of a kid getting away from school for a day. I also confess to something that a lot kids don't until they grow up - that I actually liked the learning that went on during those trips.
Do I remember exactly what teachers said to the kids on those trips? No. But it was the experience that stuck with me, that of exploring new ideas. That's what makes museums including the Detroit Science Center so fun to go back to with family and friends of all ages.
A Hands-On Education
One of the biggest reasons that the Detroit Science Center is popular with families is because of the hands-on experience it provides. There are temporary exhibits as well as some permanent favorites where kids learn about such things as sound, wind, electricity, health, engineering, and more.

More Museum Attractions
The museum hosts many attractions besides its hands-on exhibits. There is usually one main attraction such as the recent Star Trek exhibit (2009) and the Our Body: The Universe Within exhibit (2007).
One of the most popular attractions though is the Chrysler IMAX Dome Theater. There are films on subjects from exploring far into space to the depths of the ocean all shown in big screen glory. The screen is a whopping 4 stories high. There is also a planetarium as well as a theater where live shows and demonstrations are performed.
One major convenience is the cafeteria. The food is basic fare, but is generally inexpensive. Busy parents and teachers will find it helpful to be able to stay in the museum for a meal rather than take the kids elsewhere.
