Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes-Types

There are two forms of diabetes, one and two.Type one is genetic and is believed to be associated with possible enviromental factors which influence the immune system to start to destroy the cells that make insulin( a type of sugar) in the pancreas. There is no cure as yet for this form of disease but animal studies and gene therapy may lead one day to some form of cure.

Type 2 Diabetes.

Often referred to as a "lifestyle" disease, this form is related to poor diet and low levels of exercise, which can lead to humans being overweight. Now before people go off and try too many forms of exercise, it is best to combine cardio with weights for decent muscular results and a slim physique.Developed countries are seeing this disease in increasing numbers with levels around 30 million victims in the US and around one million in Australia. It is believed that around 50% of people afflicated with this disease are not even aware they have it.Some of the symptoms are the folowing.

1/Unusually high thirst

2/Passing large amounts of urine

3/General lethergy

4/Blurred vision and mood swings.

5/Slow healing wounds

These are the main symptoms , which can easily be misdentified as the "natural" result of ageing.

Glucose and Life.

Carbohydrates such as potatoes, pasta, rice and milk etc release glucose after digestion which we use for energy. The Glucose is either stored in the liver or converted to fat in other areas of the body. The pancreas then creates insulin which controls the "glucose channels"which leads to "glucose metabolism".What we see in Diabetes is one of two things.Either the pancreas cannot make insulin which leads to type 1 diabetes.Or,more commonly, cells devlop insulin resistance and dont respond properly and the pancreas, inadvertently then doesnt produce enough insulin.

Factors that increase the risk of type 2

Obesity and diet are the key factors that determine the possibility of type 2 diabetes strking down an individual. In places like India, we see such major problems where the disease can and does strike the lower limbs, due to circulation problems and subsequently the amputation of the "problem"limbs to reduce the chance of gangrenous conditions moving up the body.High blood pressure and smoking both obviously increase the chance of diabetes.!

But exercise can reduce fat and lower the chance of diabetes 2.
