Diabetes is a disease which is characterized by deranged glucose tolerance, irregular blood sugar level and metabolism, deranged insulin production of an individual.

There are various hypotheses as regards to the cause of diabetes and the complications associated with it. Various researchers had carried out many studies trying to understand the realm of diabetes. Most of the studies have been done in accordance to the association of diabetes with other disease conditions.

Research for cause of diabetes:

Various research works has been carried out to understand the various etiological and predisposing factors of diabetes so as to make it easier for preventing its occurrence in younger generations. It has been found out through these researches that even if a person has a genetic predisposition of diabetes in terms of having a familial history, a well organized and healthy lifestyle including proper food habits and exercise, etc will help in preventing diabetes. This has helped in devising proper therapeutic strategies and modules for preventing lots of cases.



Research for finding the relation between diabetes and other associated diseases:

Various disease conditions have been found to be associated with diabetes in patients. These disease condition is known to affect organs like retina (eye) causing retinopathy, nephrons(unit of kidney) causing nephropathy, neurons(nerves) causing neuropathy and also many other systemic and generalized diseases.

Extensive research work has been done in this area so as to help in preventing the severe complication arising from diabetes. These studies reveal that the complications and other diseases arise in those individuals who did not take proper treatment for diabetes or had not maintained a healthy lifestyle. This has lead to the conclusion that a proper, organized and healthy lifestyle with treatment will help in preventing complications of diabetes.

A complete study to understand the cause low immune had resulted in that the deranged metabolism of blood sugar and insulin disturb the blood formation process resulting in poor or less formation of WBC and platelets. Thus diabetics are more susceptible to injury and infection with poor healing and recuperation. Similar studies have also revealed that diabetes damaged the smaller blood vessels leading to the various infections of eye, ear, skin, etc. Thus extensive research has been more helpful in understanding the numerous mysteries of diabetes. The research is on going to improve medical science and tackle with its complications.
