Diabetes
50What is Diabetes
Diabetes has risen in recent years. More cases of Type-2 diabetes are being diagnosed every week across the world. Many more cases are being diagnosed in younger children. There are two main forms of diabetes. Type-1 diabetes is an auto-immune disorder which attacks B-cells in the pancreas. There is no practical cure for this form of diabetes and cannot be prevented. Type-2 diabetes on the other hand is an insulin resistance. There is no specific cause for this to develop, however those who are overweight have an increased chance of developing the condition. Although it is fairly common, the onset can be delayed for years. A healthy diet and lifestyle can prevent the onset of Type-2 diabetes for years.
There are three main symptoms for diabetes. Ployuria, Polydipsia, Polyphagia, and other symptoms have been reported also. Symptoms such as blurred vision, weight loss prolonged blood glucose levels. Diabetes can be detected by screening. Screening can be requested when someone suffers a problem that is related to diabetes, also some pregnant mothers are tested. Physicians measure a fasting glucose level to test for diabetes. This is because it is quicker and easier to read than a formal test. Formal tests can take up to two hours to produce results. A universal screening is recommended for those over 40, although younger people can be screened if they are at risk of developing diabetes.
Type-2 diabetes can be prevented. Eating the correct foods and exercising for the recommended time each day can prevent the onset of Type-2 diabetes and help you live longer. On top of living longer you will not suffer from illnesses often and feel happier and more confident as a person. A poor diet is a major factor for developing diabetes. Digestive disorders no matter how small can have an effect on insulin production. Poor diet means less nutrients, therefore creates an environment for bugs and viruses to thrive. Stress can also weaken the immune system. Western societies have more refined foods and stressful lifestyle, which are resulting in more cases being diagnosed.
Every day we get told what we should be eating and what we should not. But this is not always the case. Everyone has a different view on what foods are healthy. But the reality is that more education is needed to educate people to understand of what type of foods we should be eating. There is misconception about fats, some fats are bad for you but some fats are good. Knowing where these good fats come from can help you loose weight and cholesterol.
Our lifestyles may be stressful but no matter how stressful they are we can always do a little bit of exercise. Walking up stairs or too the shop is classed as exercise. Knowing what exercises can be done can again help you to lead a healthy lifestyle and prevent the onset of diabetes.
