Treating Your Dog's Diabetes
Along with this diabetic dog food, insulin injections are also necessary. But let it be known that too low a dosage will not have the right effect on treating the diabetes, and too high a dose could result kill them. But if the right amount of the medication is administered, along with the diabetic dog food, you can be assured that the correct blood sugar levels will be maintained.
Now the next question is "Where do you find Diabetic Dog Food?" If you do own a dog with diabetes, the first rule of thumb is to stay away from commercial dog food! Stay away from both the wet and dry dog food!! It all contains large amounts of cardohydrates, and high in sugar. And carbohydrates are considered a form of sugar, because they are metabolized into glucose by the body. This is very possibly the reason your dog got diabetes in the first place. Studies have shown that dogs can get diabetes from commercial dog food.
The best solution to diabetic dog food is to feed your dog homemade dog foods and raw foods. By doing this, you will be able to keep track of exactly how much carbohydrates and sugar they are getting. Putting your dog on a homemade diabetic dog food diet need not be expensive or hard work.
Raw Food - Better Diabetic Dog Food

My dog has been diabetic for over 2 years now...I do not feed him prescription food.He eats Burns dry food mixed with james wellbeloved wet food and does very well on this. These are both high quality dog foods with no added sugar . But if you want to feed him home cooked you can. You just need to find what works for him. Chicken with brown rice and vegetables is a good place to start. What I found was that most vets know a little about diabetes but its up to us to research as much as possible. My email is chryss@blueyonder.co.uk. in case you want to get in touch for any further help. There are a lot of great websites that can help too. Google diabetic dog......I wish you and your dog all the luck in the world.
