Diary of a Fatman Slimming Down with Stevie P90Xing
80Any workout video or training regimen is a lifestyle commitment. If anyone knows me, I have issues committing to things…but when it comes to my body and its improvement, I can be fully committed, just ask any one of my football coaches or any of the kids I coached.
Whether it’s 10 Minute Trainer, P90X, even 6 pack abs, or a 24 Hour Fitness Membership, any workout program is a lifestyle change. It’s so much easier to chill at home and eat fried fatty foods all day. But when you look at the long term, what’s the point when you’re lying in your hospital bed, or can’t eat pork because of gout.
After failing my cholesterol test, and watching my weight spiral out of control and fluctuate, I decided 2009 would be the year that I become healthy. I decided to rededicate myself to my body. What I lost was unneeded negativity, what I gained was a new me and a positive outlook.
The Program
P90X is 90 straight days (13 weeks of 6 days a week) of
synergistic muscle building workouts. All you need is some exercise bands, a
couple dumbbells, a yoga mat and a pullup bar. And maybe a good 7 feet of floor
space.
It’s a daily 45 to 90 minute exercise routines meant to get you ripped while shedding fat. It’s great, NFL guys are on it, and when you stick to it, you’ll see results. It’s built on the philosophy of muscle confusion, constantly changing the exercise so you don’t plateau, and never allow your body to adjust.
Personally Tony Horton, the trainer gets cheesy, so I usually watch on mute while bumping the radio. After a while you get familiar with the routines.
Diet
I didn’t follow the diet plan, instead I continued my
current plan which is 2060 meaning full calories full of protein and fiber. I
didn’t deprive myself. I had the occasional crispy pata and KFC. But it was in
moderation, and I made sure I worked it off after. When you eat less, you get
fuller faster. A majority of my meals were cooked at home consisting of a lean
meat, and veggies.
I admit I drank a bit here and there, but I kept it light beer or 0 calorie diet Coke and Bacardi light. . On the bright side when you’re healthier, you get drunk faster.
As for sodas, I don’t even go unless it’s 0 calories, I’m cool off the Gatorade and juices, it’s all sugars. Coffee is low calorie and gets your metabolism going. I wasn’t even messing with the Jamba Juice, it’s all sugar. You want a real smoothie, blend some frozen fruits and soy milk. I did drink some Asian herbal diet tea which helped clean me out. It was good before bed after a party day where I would eat more than usual.
Extra Credit
Once a week, I’d do some of my maximum Wii Fit, with my Wii,
stepper, weight vest and dumbbells. It’s an extra way of polishing the guns. I
would also sometimes substitute Yoga X for heated Bikram Yoga. At the office, I
continued pedaling with my desk bike, and picked up the dumbbells regularly.
When you’re on a god workout program, you’re body wants to continue moving and burning calories. P90X didn’t end in my living room.
What’s the use of fixing the body if you can’t run the engine. I used my swifter frame for regular basketball and tennis games, and an occasional flag football game. This is where you see the Plyo X coming to life.
Cultural Differences
So Filipinos think fat is great, it’s cute, and a sign of wealth.
I hate to burst your bubble, but it’s not cute when chicks don’t like you, and
you’re not that wealthy if you blow all your money on hospital bills because of
obesity related issues. So calm down mom and dad, this may seem unnatural
because I’m for once healthy by American medical standards. Although I’ll admit
too fat kids crack me up, and I’ll always be a fat kid heart. You should never
forget where you came from, and that includes the cookie jar.
Final Words and Thank Yous
I just want to thank everyone that was a part of this transformation. I’ll go back to high school. Thanks to all coaches you gave me a basis for physical activity and taught me that hard work could pay off. Thanks to the people who inspired me to lose the weight. Thanks to my friends, who are my friends through thick and thin, and when I hear you guys are on it too, it makes me wanna continue. Thank you Beachbody for producing a great product, and the newsletters always offers valuable tips and info. And thank you to all the fatties out there that makes me look even better…just kidding. Thanks to people who stop by my cube to give compliments and ask for advice. I hope my lifestyle and attitude change can promote a physically healthier lifestyle. Remember kids, you don't wanna grow up to be like me. But remember, exercise won't have the same effects on everyone, but for me I could say, it's made me feel a little better about current situations. Despite some cockiness, and new guns, I'm just a shell. I need to cross it over to regular life.
My tummy is smaller, and I'll admit, my head may have gotten a bit bigger, but it's all gravy, I'll get over it. But thanks everyone for the support.
When you look good, you feel good, when you feel good, you look even better. It’s a perpetual cycle of positivity. It's a lifestyle change, and working out is a real commitment to excellence...If only I could commit to other things in life. Isn't it obvious, this is the only thing I've got going in the right direction.
I'm not a health expert, just an old football player that got fat, that became a coach, that eventually, after years of urging from others, decided to lose weight. I'm not too spiritual or religious. I actually cosider myself damaged good with issues. I have many scars, some for life, some I'm trying to heal. But that stuff takes time, for now, I'll build more scars, this time miscle scar tissues, muscles are scars also...but these are the only scars that can be seen as positive.
If only I could apply my workout habits to the rest of my everyday life and relationships.
