Did You Know: Fast Facts on Horses
66
Horses are gorgeous creatures that thousands of girls (and boys) beg their parents for everyday. But those kids do not know a lot of fascinating facts about horses as they are quite interesting animals:
- An average horse's head weighs 11.84 pounds. (Dang that is a big head!)
- A horse is able to drink about 10 gallons of water per day. (And you thought you needed a camel if you wanted a mammal to drink a lot of water!)
- Horses use their facial expressions to communicate... just like we do!
- Horses spend more energy lying down. (And that is one reason why many horses sleep standing up.)
- An Akhal-Teke from Russia can go for days without water or food. (This sounds like a useful horse to take in the desert.)
- "Old Billy" was one of the oldest recorded living horses. He lived to be 62-years-old!
- Falebella from Argentina is the smallest breed of horse.
- Camargue horses are horses that are completely white as adults. Their babies are pure black when they are born. (COOL!)
- A horse's upper jaw is wider than its lower jaw.
- The horse's small intestine is 70 ft long!
- The tallest horse on record was called Samson. He was 21.2 hh (hands high). (7'2") I can't even imagine riding a horse this tall!
- Horses can't breathe through their mouths.
- Horses sleep longer in the summer than in the winter... this seems backwards, no?
- A zedonk is the cross between a zebra and a donkey.

PS Can't believe a Zedonk is rideable!
I know, my newest adventure that I want to set out upon is to ride a zedonk! I mean, that has to be an easily spooked animal with insanely sure-footing.
