4) Select fat free, 1% fat and low fat dairy products.
5) Cut back on foods containing partially hydrogenated vegetable oils to reduce trans fat in your diet.
6) Cut back on foods high in dietary cholesterol eating less than 300 mg. per day.
7) Cut back on beverages and foods with added sugars like glucose, sucrose and fructose.
8) Choose and prepare foods with little or no salt, less than 2,300 mg. per day.
9) Eat a diet rich in fiber.(14 grams per 1000 calories)
Foods containing at least 0.4 grams per serving of plant sterols eaten twice a day with meals for a daily total intake of at least 0.8 grams and as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease and play a key factor in lowering cholesterol.
Also, resveratrol and omega 3 fatty acids may help maintain existing healthy cholesterol levels.
