Diets and Dieting - A Husbands View

Maybe this should go into the food section, or maybe the health section. What about relationships? Or perhaps humor! Wherever it goes this is a man's view of diets and dieting. Specifically, of course, it's my view of my wife's dieting.

My wife has been dieting for nearly twenty. No not weeks, not months, but years! Ever since our youngest son was born she has had the urge to diet. Now, being that my wife cooked most meals, guess who had the joy of participation?

Well, there was the diets where all foods were eaten separately, really good on the meat days, miserable on the others. Then there was the soup diet. After a few days of disposing of the soup in the quiet place and feeling like the soup wants to come out the way it went in, that diet was discarded. But I survived - to live another diet.

Next came the ones with exercises. Now she is a health and fitness instructor and I'm a computer geek - figure that one out! Not a great combination. "Right, Jim, out you come for a mountian walk". "I'll be right there!" Yea, right! Well I do go and I do enjoy it, but not in the middle of hubbing!

Now its those which say you shouldn't eat certain foods together, and start with fruits and end the day with proteins. Trouble is, which of the two is right? Of course, there's also the exercise. But I've been observing lately the habits developed. It seems like my darling wife now diets - between meals! Yes that's right. She eats "normal", that is all the wrong stuff, according to the dieticians, and in between she eats the diet foods. Well, I might be wrong. When I suggested this to her she laughed and said I'm funny.

So I write it here and as I have just discovered the poll capsule, I'm going to ask you, dear reader and fan, what is your experience with diets. One thing I must say, without diets, meal times would be dull! Have fun, and above all enjoy life.

What has been your experience with dieting?

  • Successful, I lost weight and kept it off
  • I lost weight but gained it again
  • I failed everytime
  • Win some lose some
  • Love the food
  • Hate the food
  • Bad choice, bad relationship
  • Never bothered
  • Happy with the way I am

Hmmmm, thanks to the dieting and exercising of your wife, you are in the good shape too. She is the active energy in your relationship, what is excellent for you. You have partner who activates you and inspire you, when you wouldn´t want to move or be on diet, she starts with it...I know that you are very aware of it and grateful because of that.

Your situation reminds me on my present relationship, I am much more active, (but do not gain weight because I know what to eat and when is enough, my partner still needs to learn that) and usually I am the first who suggest mountains and hiking...But I am even worse then your wife: when I am not hungry (sometimes I do not eat for 2-3 days almost nothing), I do not cook, he, he.Nothing at all. And believe me, when I started to act on that way, my partner started to cook and loose weight even more. And he became more active (also computer disease: since he met me, thanks to my approach to eating and "moving" he lost almost 20kg- 40 pounds in 8 months).

I also like sitting and hubbing as well...so it is better not to eat, when I am not hungry. Cappuccino is more then enough...

Thanks for sharing your experience, jim, thumbs up, many regards to your wife, you have a new Fan.

Hi Tatjana, thanks for your kind and insightful comments. Actually, we are beginning to realize that its not so much what we eat as how we see ourselves. Of course the food is important (so's the feel good chocolate :)) but our view of ourselves is important too. I have a feeling you understand that. You can a picure of her at www.wingsofchangelife.com/About-us.html. Now tell me. Does that lady need a diet?

Keep hiking. Jim

I have seen picture of both of you...You are great couple...the both of you are so special. No she does not need diet, but she likes to take care about her weight.

When I was 18, and trying many types of diet,I found out that meet is the main problem, and I finally lost weight when I stopped to eat it (at first only temporary ). Meat is fool of hormones, and not good to be eaten too often. Without meat is so easy to balance weight.

I adore mountains, if you want, have a look in my Hub "Majestic faces of one mountain and spiritual lessons gained through the hiking", you might like it, as well as really magnificent pictures of Mt Velebit, it is amazing mountain next to the Adriatic sea... i think you will understand the beauty of it... or your wife?...

I have read some of your other Hubs, and you are very ispirational to me...

Thank you for joining my funclub, your Hubs are like Divine gift for me.
