Of all the different types of adhesive tape people will use in their homes today the most popular of all is duct tape. Yet what a lot of us do not realize is that in fact there are a wide variety of different types of adhesive tape we can use and each have specific tasks to do.

Below we take a look at the different types of adhesive tape and what it is used for nowadays. Of course the reason why duct tape is proving so popular is that it is a very versatile type of adhesive tape you can use in your home.

In some cases it is used to keep floor rugs in position whilst others use it as a way of repairing upholstery or hoses. Then some people may use it as a way of temporarily repairing a window that is cracked until they can actually get the glass replaced.

Whilst many others often use this type of adhesive tape to repair a book binding or if they lose or damage the cover to a remote control to keep the batteries in place. Along with duct tape another type of adhesive tape which you should keep a supply of in your home is the electrical kind.

Generally this type of tape is used when new electrical products are being installed in your home such as lights or ceiling fans, but you will soon discover it can be used in other ways as well. If for example you find that you have no wire nuts available this can be used until such time as you can get some. As well as being used for the tasks above this type of tape can use used for repairing electrical cords temporarily.

If you do use it for this purpose then as soon as you are able to the cord repaired needs to then be replaced. Another way of using this type of adhesive tape is when antenna boosters have to be installed as it will protect them from the inclement weather when outside.

The next kind of adhesive tape to think about getting for your home is the carpet type which any good DIY or hardware store should have available. It is used for binding to pieces of carpet together.

However you do need a specialist tool that heats up the adhesive on the tape so that the carpets adhere to it. But along with sticking to pieces of carpet together this is another great one for using to keep floor rugs in place like the duct tape does. Of course what you may also find useful for the home is "gaffer" or cloth tape. It gained the name of gaffer from the theatre and movie industry because in order for it to be used the people had to ask the "gaffer" (boss) for it.

Generally this kind of tape is most commonly used for securing any kind cables, but it has plenty of uses around your home as well. But no home today is without some type of clear adhesive tape. As we all know it has a number of different uses from taping together two pieces of paper or as a way of sealing up a bag of crisps which have been eaten to keep them fresh.

But mainly people will use it to wrap paper around gifts and presents. Whilst some people use it to adhere messages or notes to the surface of something as a way of reminding themselves about something.

From above you can there are plenty of different types of adhesive tape you can use around the home. It is important that before you use any you do some research as this way you will be able to decide which of the different types of adhesive tape and what they are used for is right for your particular project.  But you may also consider the use of industrial adhesives rather than tapes for applications that require something a bit more discreet and stronger.  Glues and adhesives can be a good alternative if tapes can't quite do the job.
