Digestive Cycles
There are three distinct Digestive Cycles which are part of the circadian rhythm of the body. These cycles cannot be changed and if they are not followed properly with correct eating patterns, poor health or other metabolic issues can occur.
The 3 Digestive Cycles are:
- Appropriation cycle (eating)
- Assimilation cycle (absorbtion of nutrients)
- Elimination cycle (waste excretion)
Appropriation Cycle
The appropriation cycle operates from 12:00 noon to 8:00pm. This is the optimal time for eating all proteins, complex carbohydrates and fats. It is during this time that the body will focus its energies on digesting all foods consumed. Eating earlier can retard the elimination cycle by diverting energy away from the removal of waste from the body. Once waste is removed your body is ready to consume new foods.
Assimilation Cycle
The assimilation cycle operates from 8:00pm to 4:00am. Once all your food has been consumed your body will begin to break down the food into the essential nutrients required for the many metabolic processes that occur in your body. During the assimilation cycle all the nutrients digested will be absorbed, nourishing all cells in the body. Eating after 8:00pm will force the body to divert energy back to digestion rather than assimilation of nutrients. Eating late at night is the reason why you may wake up exhausted in the morning. Your body has spent all it's energy trying to digest food instead of absorbing and using the nutrition while you were sleeping. This will also interfere with the beginning of the elimination cycle.
Elimination Cycle
The elimination cycles operates from 4:00am to 12:00 noon. At this time the primary focus is to remove waste from the body. After all food is consumed, digested and absorbed, anything left over is waste and has to be removed from the body. This is an important time, as any waste left in the body will become toxic and cause health problems. The reason for most health complaints is because they body has not been able to remove and eliminate toxins. Allowing the body to focus the necessary energy of waste removal will ensure good health and wellbeing for many years of life.
Water & Fruit
The one exception to the above rules is water and fruit.
Fruit can be eaten in the morning or evening without affecting the digestive cycles. Fruit is made of of simple sugars in the form of fructose and/or glucose. These chemical structure of these simple carbohydrates allows them to be absorbed into the body without diverting energy away from the digestive cycle.
Water can also be taken at any time. Drinking water first thing in the morning is extremely beneficial to the elimination cycle and will assist in waste removal.
Taking advantage of these cycles will ensure that you experience optimal health and wellness.

Classic idea Dear ER: I see the commercial property at 15th Street and Hermosa Avenue is up for sale. You know what this town needs is a great hamburger place where you can get a hamburger and fries and a drink for $5, or a great breakfast for $4. Maybe, even some good Mexican food.
