Digital Image Editing - Adobe Photoshop Elements
60DIGITAL IMAGE EDITING – ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS
Photoshop Elements is an evolving product from Adobe. It's a fine program for editing your images. When you want to get creative the program can help you do things that will give you lots of pleasure.
This program can work with adobe Camera Raw formatted images and allow you to save in more than one format. You can also save images as a “version set” so they are all in one place.
In addition to post-shooting corrections you can add borders, text and re-size your image easily. There is a drop-down menu with a list of special effects to alter your original image dramatically.
You can reduce the size of your image with the crop tool, erase with the eraser tool, enhance the image by dodging your image and work with gradients. Gradients allow you to change the colors using a set of shifting hues chosen by you.
If you want to create a black and white image from a color image, you can do that too. You can clean up a damaged image using the clone stamp tool.
A nice feature of the program is the ability to undo the changes you've made in reverse order so that you can are not be forced to live with a finished product you are not delighted with.
The program is not free. I believe the cost is worth the benefits if you plan to work with digital images and need a sophisticated program. Upgrades are less expensive than the program purchased separately.
The program is complex and I suggest you will also need a book or two to help you learn how to put it to the most efficient use. Some of the teaching texts come with a companion CD you will find has the images and examples needed to learn the details discussed in the book. I get frustrated when I have to spend too much time figuring out how to perform an action on my image.
In addition to working with your image adobe Photoshop Elements has an organizer feature allowing you to tag and sort your images so you are not going through a large number if images searching for a special one. It's a real time saver.
There is a more advanced version of Photoshop and you might want to check out the cost/benefits of that program. I believe it is designed for the professional photographer.

There are other tools in this program I've not mentioned in this article. You will have the ability to use curves, brushes, layers, and a panorama maker to mention some of them.
If you don't need the feature set of Photoshop Elements you may want to consider free software.
