The Digital TV Transition

What you need to know about DTV. You must get rid of tour old television by June 12, 2009 or purchase a TV converter box. We have been hearing about this for years but its finally happening at midnight on June 12, 2009. All stations in the United States will stop broadcasting in analog and will have to switch to 100% digital broadcasting. With digital broadcasting you will get a clearer picture and will have more programming options. This will also free up the airwaves to be used by emergency responders. The govermnent has given us 4 more months to get our digital converters.  You can find them for less than $60 and with the coupon you will save over 60%.  I saw one for sale at Circuit City for 39.99.  This would have gotten you the converter for free.

I am the PROUD OWNER of 2 black & white TV's, plus 2 color sets and cannot afford another monthly bill (retired and squeaking by). Is there any way I will be able to recieve local broadcasts on the B&W sets with some modification? I don't see any open "ports" for a converter box on the B&W sets. Have you or the "powers that be" ever checked the utility box - comparing the wattage used - B&W vs. color?

Hi Shirly,

Do you have a place for a antena or rabbit ears, you should be able to buy coaxel converter to plug in to the digital box, also I know that if you look at craigs list you can find people giving TV's away free, just check your city's listings and check out the classifieds and under free you will see free as one of the sections in craigs list.

Wow! That is the most comprehensive Hub I have seen on the Digital Transition. The only thing I noticed you were missed was reviews of different converter boxes. If you are interested you can click on my name here and it will bring you to my site where I have a review of 14 different converter boxes. If you are interested in including them here go right ahead... Just make sure you link back to my blog so I get credit for it.

Thanks!
