Direct Sales from a Child's Perspective

Direct sales and a home based business is the answer for many in this time of increasing unemployment, tightening of belts and overall economic misery.

I’ve given a lot of thought lately to the general state of the economy and my position in that economy financial and otherwise. I’ve been remembering that as a child growing up in the rice and cotton area of central Arkansas at the end of more than one or two dirt roads, once or twice a month a man would appear in his 1940’s black Ford truck.

Mom would go to the cookie jar and take out a few bills. Out we'd go to meet the person that had just arrived. On the back of his truck was a huge wooden enclosure. It had 3 huge doors with silver handles for opening. Each door was held open with sticks at each end. Behind those doors were beautiful bananas, apples, oranges and other fruit. We had no other access to these products since we lived so far out in the country. Mom would make her selections and we would have fruit for the next week or so.

Each summer we had the most productive garden one could imagine so vegetables were plentiful. Canning of tomatoes and local fruit was done each summer and stored for winter consumption. But, fresh fruit at certain times of the year was a special treat. There was another fellow that appeared about 3 times a year with his truck. He sold pots, pans, dishes and other items of small houseware necessities.

The point of this story is that I recently realized that the guy bringing the fruit to local farmers was my first experience with direct sales. I don’t know how well those guys did. They continued to stop by for what seemed to a child like many years. They obviously made enough to continue to do what they had chosen as their profession. It has also become apparent that they sold necessities, items needed to make the household run and keep the family healthy.

Residual Income and Consumable Products, a Perfect Match

These products did not require “new money.” These were items used by every household every day. Once consumed these items then had to be replaced.

What if a person could find a home based business dealing in consumable necessity products today? These would be products that everybody uses every day. What if that business had a residual income attached to it? A person could build a business that would provide an ongoing income on a regular basis. Over the months and years that business and its’ accompanying residual income would grow. Find a business that does not require you to have any inventory, handle any money, deliver products or party plan. All you have left then is paper. How great would that be?

What could be better than doing something once and getting paid for it month after month for years? This type of direct sales and home based business has become the answer for many because it provides an increasing income during tough economic times. I wish I had learned this many years ago. This current economic climate would have no effect on me. The insurance industry understands residual income very well as I’m sure a few other industries do.

Find a strong seasoned company with a demonstrated successful history and throw in with them. Build your business. Reap the fruits of your labor. You will create a great monthly income. More important, you will create your own retirement account based on residual income.

Thousands have done it. Thousands are doing it right now and you can too.

My friend, you are showing your age. I have dirt in my back yard younger than you. But your story-telling is great. It gives me hope that being an employee is not the only way to make money.

Good post Bill. One of the advantages of direct selling is that a good direct selling company will have a system already in place. The new business owner associated with the direct selling company will not need to reinvent the wheel. It is like a personal franchise.

You are totally correct about having a system in place. It is surprising how many companies tout a system but that system falls short for the people in the trenches. Appreciate your comment
