So, you're thinking of plunking down the four monthly payments of 60 bucks and change for Direct TV NFL Sunday Ticket.

I bet you want to know if it's worth it.

Well, I can't really tell you whether it is or isn't for your particular situation, but when I can tell you is what it's like to have it. And then you can decide if what I describe is worth it to you?

Okay, first I should tell you what my experience with "the package" (as we call it around my house) has been.

This will be my second season with it. Last year was the first time I took the plunge and got it, even though I've been a Direct TV subscriber for four years.

So I waited around deciding what to do too.

First I'll tell you the good stuff...

It is, honestly, everything you've heard and more. I aboslutely hate it when you get all pumped up to get something that's hyped to the point of being ridiculous, and then you get it and you're like, "THIS IS IT?!?!?"

That doesn't happen with the ticket.

Just getting to watch any game you want every Sunday isn't really even the best part of it for me. It really is what Direct TV does with it that's going to keep me coming back to it this year.

Stat trackers, instant highlights, analysis, league-wide live updates and player tracking, and on and on and on.

Now, there are two people The Ticket is perfect for (both of these describes me by the way)...

-- Fantasy football players: If you're in a fantasy league, and you don't want to sit in front of your computer all day checking scores, then this will totally change your life (or at least your Sundays; let's not get carried away).

You can watch 8 games at once for Pete (Rozelle)'s sake! 'Nuff said.

-- Displaced fans: This is really the only reason I got the Ticket in the first place. I'm a Patriots fan and moved to Seattle a few years ago. So obviously I don't get too many Pats games up here.

If this is why you're thinking about getting it, just ask yourself how much it's worth to you to see every game your team plays this year. If it's worth about $15 a week, then the package is it worth it to you. If it isn't, then skip it.

The Ticket isn't perfect. For one thing, as far as sports packages like these go, it's one of the more expensive ones out there.

But the way I figured it out is like this -- it averages out to around $15 a week during the football season (you make four monthly payments, so it's not like you're going to be paying for thing in March).

If I go down to my local bar (Ye Olde Ale House -- shout out fellas) that has the Ticket to watch one game a week, I'm going to spend at least $15 between a few beers and maybe some wings.

So that's basically a wash.

You may use some other method to figure out if it's worth it, but my way seems pretty sensible (at least to me).

Plus, I hear that this year, during those four months you're paying for the Ticket, you get like 30 movie channels or something for free.

So depending on how big a movie fan you are, you might actually wind up making money on the whole thing. (I didn't get a deal like that when I signed up, and I already have the movie channels I want, so I missed out on this one.)

Beyond that, the other "bad" thing about the Ticket is that women freakin' despise it.

Sure, if you're not married your girlfriend will probably pretend to like football for a while, and will probably even show up at your house to watch a few games.

But if you're married, your wife -- if she's anything like mine -- is going to roll her eyes every Sunday morning when you fire up the Dish for a full day of football sweetness.

So that's my two cents.
