What THEY Don't Want You to Know About Direct TV Service

I’m not easily impressed and I’ve been told I’m even harder to please. So the fact I chose Direct TV for my satellite TV provider obviously means I was impressed with what I’d learned.

But more than what I learned about Direct TV is what I learned about how to order Direct TV.

If I hadn't literally stumbled upon a pretty surprsing feature of their website, I would have wound up forking out about $400 more for service.

I'll get to that point in a second, but you came here looking for a review of the Direct TV service right? So let's cover that first.

Now, you need to understand that this was not some spur of the moment, flip of the coin decision. I did my homework. I read consumer reviews, talked to friends and family, and spent several evenings browsing through websites.

When I finished, I knew exactly what Direct TV had to offer, and I have to say, yes, I was impressed.

They offer a whopping 250 channels of endless TV viewing, covering every genre you could possibly imagine. Comedy, drama, games and sports, variety, movies, news and weather all at the click of your remote. I was also impressed by the number of XM Satellite Radio channels, 68 at last count, and commercial free.

What really got my attention, though, was the awesome offering of movies. I’m a huge movie buff and Direct TV has 31 premium movie channels and more than 60 pay-per-view movies each month. No standing in line for tickets, no clerk at the video store telling me the movie I want is ‘out of stock’. It’s always available and I can order from the comfort of my living room.

Now, to be honest, I hesitated about choosing Direct TV when someone told me they didn’t have very many HD channels. Since then I’ve learned they have about 900 hours of HD programming every week. As if that weren’t already enough, they’ll soon be offering up to 150 channels in high definition.

But now let's get back to that little secret about ordering Direct TV.

Read this part closely, because if you ignore this your bank account WILL wind up a heck of a lot lighter than it should be.

Most people when they order service just go straight to the Direct TV website, click on the package they want, and sign up. (A few people call to order, but those people are, uh, different, you know. I mean who wants to give their social security number to an operator and be put through a credit check just to order TV service. Not me. And I'm betting you don't want to either.)

So anyway, back to these people who just go the Direct TV site and order the first thing that catches their eye.

It's incredibly simple to do it that way, but it's also the exact WRONG way to do it.

Doing that is a little like walking into a car dealership, pointing to the one you want and saying to the salesman, "How much is that one?" What's he gonna do? He's going to quote you the sticker price, right? And you know why? Because there are a few saps out there who pay sticker price for their cars, and maybe you're one of them.

That's the way his thinking goes.

So don't play that game.

Skip all the BS and go straight to the interior "nether-regions" of the Direct TV website -- the pages where they "hide" their best deals away from the people who want to pay "sticker price."

So where is that one page you WANT to visit to find the best deal on Direct TV?

This is the page I found. And while the specifics of the offer may change, they DO NOT change the URL. Trust me. I checked a few times and it's always there.

Since I had my Direct TV satellite system installed, a couple of people at work have asked me why I chose Direct TV, since their prices are a bit more (by like 10 bucks) than some of the other providers. Apparently my co-workers were unaware that by paying a little more I can preview new series on FX before they air. That’s available only with Direct TV.

I also have access to the NFL Sunday Ticket, another Direct TV exclusive. Nowhere else can you find interactive mix channels that allow you to watch up to 8 live channels of news, sports or kid’s channels, all on the same screen. And with their CD USA, I can see musical events that are only available to Direct TV subscribers.

Not only did they impress me, but over the last few months I’ve continued to be pleased with my Direct TV service. But maybe you’re even harder to impress than me.

The good news is you don’t have to take my word for any of this. Just click here to go right to the hidden Direct TV deals page and see for yourself.
