Recommended Juice Fast Plan

Before juice fasting is commenced, a two or three day ‘water-fast’ is beneficial. Water fasting increases the effectiveness of juice fasting. An expert’s guidance is necessary for the selection of fruits and vegetables for the cure of a particular disease.

Begin fasting with a small quantity of juices. Gradually increase the quantity. On the first day take 250ml of juices five times at the intervals of 3 hours. Thus the total quantity of juices to be taken on the first day will be 1250ml. On the second day take 300 ml of juices each time. Begin taking juices at seven in the morning. The last intake should be at seven in the evening. Gradually increase the quantity everyday. After eight days a person having good digestion will be able to take more than 600ml of juice each time. Thus the quantity of juices which he will take during the whole day will be 5 – 10 liters. If one feels heaviness in stomach, it means that the quantity of juices taken is more than required. In such cases the quantity should be decreased. Those who want to consume more juice should reduce the interval between the two intakes and take juices 7 to 8 times a day.

Precautions for Juice Fasting

One can continue juice fasting for one and a half to two months. But during the time it is possible that some symptoms like foul breathing, head ache, stomach ache, insomnia, fever, body ache, swelling of gums etc. may arise. These symptoms in fact are the processes for eliminating toxic substances inhabited in the body. It is not a matter of worry. One is likely to lose some weight but one should not worry about the lost pounds. These symptoms will disappear gradually and the body will be completely cleansed.

One should strictly observe the following instructions during juice-fasting:

  1. Take complete rest except, if desired, walking for a short distance in the morning
  2. One can walk for a short distance in the evening also
  3. Avoid work which involves physical exertion
  4. Leave off anxiety and hurry. Live delightfully
  5. Have full faith in juice-fasting and be optimist in your experiment for the improvement of health
  6. Abandon smoking and taking tea, coffee, cold drink, alcohol, etc

Ending a Juice Fast

The way in which juice-fasting is terminated is also very important. The success or failure of juice-fasting depends on the post-fasting follow-up. The purpose of juice-fasting will not be served if its termination is improper. On the day of breaking the fast, juice should be taken only three times a day i.e., in the morning, at noon and in the evening. Ripe fruits without roughage and fibers should be taken in between intervals. On the second day fruits and boiled vegetables should be taken. On the third day some milk and nuts should be taken in addition to fruits and vegetables. Begin taking sprouted pulses and food-grains on the fourth day. Then gradually start taking the usual diet. Juices in certain quantities should be continued to maintain health gained during juice-fasting.

In short, at the time of breaking juice-fasting the following instructions should be observed:

  1. Stay peacefully and delightfully
  2. Do not start eating excessive food after juice-fasting
  3. After juice-fasting is completed let a few days pass by before taking usual diet
  4. There should be a gradual increase in the quantity of food
  5. Chew properly the food you take
  6. Even after the termination of juice-fasting, some quantity of juice should be taken regularly
