What is a Dirt Bike Helmet? Getting to Know the Equipment

Dirt bike is not a joke. This activity requires a lot of courage and safety because a little fall might actually mean death. With this, the need for dirt bike helmet is crucial since it reduces the peak energy of the sharp impact given to the head. Because of this critical job, most helmets are created with layers of stiff foam in order to at least cushion the blow.

Almost all kinds of dirt bike helmets are created with crushable expanded polystyrene (EPS) which is the while picnic cooler foam. Without any doubt, the EPS works well although it does not really recover once crushed. There is also a similar foam names as the expanded polypropylene (EPP) which does recover although this is not really commonly found in dirt bike helmets. There is also the EPU which means expanded polyurethane that contains a uniform cell structure and crushes without really a rebound but the drawback of this kind is the fact that it is heavier as compared to the EPS and the manufacturing process is not rally friendly to out environment.

In buying, you must look for one that will stay on your head even though you hit more than once. Because of this, you must ensure that it contains the necessary strong buckle and strap. The helmet must also sit level on your head and it should cover all of your head as much as possible. Likewise, you should not be able to get the helmet out of your head once the strap is fastened. If it does, you have to adjust the strap until you get the right fit.

For your comfort, there is a need for you to ensure ventilation, coolness, right fit, and sweat control. Air flow into the head would determine coolness, it would be very comfortable if you get enough air coming into your head because dirt biking requires you to sweat a lot and you don’t want to feel as if you are going to pass out any moment just because it is too hot. Larger front vents would offer better air flow.

Actually, almost all current helmets as of these days are known to offer adequate cooling for riders so there is no point of worrying. Sweat control on the other hand may need a brow pad as well as a separate sweatband. Something which is fit snugly and with no pressure points will allow you to experience the comfort that you need on your head when it crash. Nonetheless, weight is not really an issue among helmets but you can always choose a lighter kind to prevent too much strain on your necks. The rule of the thumb is to simply get the helmet that offers lots of safety features and one that you are comfortable of.
